This data set is made up
of the indexed page images of eleven books originally published by the Genealogical
Publishing Company. Comprehensive in its coverage early Louisiana, this unique
collection of census records, family histories, military records, and immigration
records references approximately 57,000 individuals.
This compilation of books
is especially useful because much of the information was collected from local
sources and covers the period of time when Louisiana was under French, and later,
Spanish control. Among the books, you'll find expertly transcribed compilations
of Louisiana's earliest census returns and a complete roster of soldiers who
participated in the Battle of New Orleans and the War of 1812. Among the more
unique resources is a compilation of newspaper articles from the New Orleans
Times Democrat focusing on early French and Spanish families.
While the information that
you'll learn from this data set varies, you can often learn:
- Dates and details of
vital events;
- Names of family members;
- Age;
- Personal characteristics;
- Occupation;
- Information on military
service (place of service, rank, etc.);
- Information on immigration.
