Genealogy.com Announces New World Family Tree Features

Exciting Enhancements Provide Instant Access and Simple Downloads From World's Largest Pedigree Database

June 28, 2001 (FREMONT, CALIFORNIA) — Genealogy.com, a division of A&E Television Networks and the leading Internet destination for genealogy research and software, announced today the exciting launch of enhanced features to its World Family Tree online subscription. This improved family tree database is an ever-growing resource allowing subscribers to search, view, and download online family trees easily. Upon finding a promising search result, subscribers can now easily view and browse the corresponding tree online instantly, allowing them to quickly determine whether they have located a true match.

Additionally, when a subscriber is ready to download a family tree file, what used to be a multiple-step process will now be facilitated by an easy Auto-Installer, giving subscribers the option to quickly save a family tree file and launch it in their Family Tree Maker program.

"We know that family history researchers will be enthusiastic about the enhancements to our popular World Family Tree subscription," said Genealogy.com's General Manger, Rob Armstrong. "An easy-to-use product is now even more convenient, with instant viewing and simple downloads sure to make researching efficient and enjoyable."

Available via monthly or yearly subscriptions, the World Family Tree subscription can be accessed at http://www.Genealogy.com/wftonline/.

About the World Family Tree Subscription

World Family Tree Subscription is an ever-expanding genealogical resource for both novices and experts. Containing extensive, user-contributed family trees spanning from the 1600s to the present, the database contains more than 134 million individuals, making it the largest pedigree database available. Plus, subscribers will continuously gain access to more records — at least an additional 1 million new names released online each month. A subscription also includes the Contributor Contact service to interact with relatives who have created overlapping family trees. With these details, researchers can start a secure and private e-mail or phone relationship to establish an ongoing data exchange, new family ties, and expanded family history information.

A Vast Array of Genealogy Resources Online

In addition to the enhanced World Family Tree Subscription, the Genealogy.com site hosts a complete list of additional online genealogy resources including the 1900 Census Subscription — the single resource for high quality, indexed, and fully searchable United States Census images, giving users access to approximately 75 million names from all 50 states and territories. Additionally, the site offers the International & Passenger Records Subscription, another dynamic online searchable database with nearly 13 million records covering Western Europe, Great Britain, and Passenger lists from all major American immigration ports. Also offered is the Genealogy Library subscription, a comprehensive searchable database, providing access to a vast offering of genealogical data, including marriage, vital, and military records.

Genealogy.com also hosts GenForum message boards, the most widely used genealogy community resource, with more than 7 million messages posted. Family history enthusiasts can use the tools at www.Genealogy.com to do everything from utilizing a step-by-step guide about getting started in genealogy, to searching for information on their own family members.

Pricing, System Requirements, and Availability

The World Family Tree online subscription is available for a $9.99 monthly, or a $49.99 annual subscription fee. The subscription can be accessed through any Internet-ready computer that has Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and higher or Netscape Navigator 4.0 and higher. As with all software, a faster processor, more RAM and more free disk space may enhance performance. The World Family Tree Subscription can be accessed on the Internet at http://www.Genealogy.com/wftsub.html.
