Genealogy.com Launches Family Home Pages the Easiest
Way to Share Family Trees Online, for Free
November 30, 1999 (FREMONT, CALIFORNIA) Genealogy.com,
LLC, formerly the Broderbund genealogy unit of Mattel Interactive,
today announced a new resource called Family Home Pages, an online
tool that makes it easy, fast and free to post family trees and
other genealogical content, including photos, online. With today's
introduction of Family Home Pages, anyone can go to www.genealogy.com
and within minutes post their family tree online. This new resource
provides family history enthusiasts with an easier way to share
their findings with their own families, as well as share information
that can lead to new discoveries about their family trees.
"Most people are able to complete a few generations of their
family tree without a problem. But as they build beyond the first
couple of branches, their search for genealogical data becomes
increasingly difficult," said Rob Armstrong, Chief Executive Officer
of Genealogy.com. "Based on our decade of experience in this industry,
we've found that a good way for family history enthusiasts to
find the information they need is by sharing family trees with
one another. The Internet has been a tremendous boon for amateur
and professional genealogists because it allows for easier one-to-one
connections that can lead to new findings about one's family."
Making a Family Tree is as Easy as 1-2-3
To create a Family Home Page, just visit www.Genealogy.com
and click on the link that says "Create or Edit Your Home Page".
From there, users are provided with simple step-by-step instructions
that help them create their own home pages. They can also post family
trees, photos, images, text-based files, and can even link to other
Web sites. Family names are then indexed through Genealogy.com's powerful
search engines so that they can be found through the Internet FamilyFinder
on www.genealogy.com or by browsing by name. To protect the privacy
of living family members, users are encouraged not to post any of those
names to their family tree.
Users can upload as much as ten megabytes of data to their Family
Home Pages. Detailed instructions are provided for how to reduce the
size of files such as photos and other images. If users have already
created a family tree in a software program -- any software program
-- they will be provided with instructions on how to upload the existing
family tree.
More Tools and Resources Available to Help Family Trees Grow
In addition to its new Family Home Pages, Genealogy.com offers family
history enthusiasts a wealth of tools and information online and on
CD-ROM. On its Web site, the company offers free interactive tools and

a subscription site encompassing genealogy research materials and databases.
Genealogy.com's broad line of genealogy software programs -- including
the number-one-selling Family Tree Maker -- are designed to meet the
needs of people with varying levels of expertise and interest in genealogy.
The growing collection of more than 200 Family Archive CDs offers historical

immigration lists, military records, family pedigrees, the World Family
TreeTM and other sources. The World Family Tree is a collection of more
than 42 volumes of actual family trees featuring 85 million people,
