Edwin Vickers, Sr (son of Eli E Vickers and Elizabeth McGovern) was born October 12, 1905 in Broxton, Georgia, and died March 29, 1971 in Sarasota, Florida. He married Lillian Maude Hursey on May 12, 1930 in Broxton, Georgia, daughter of Jefferson Clyde Cornelius Hursey and Fannie Belle Glisson.

Broxton, which was incorporated on July 27, 1904. was named after Broxton Creek which runs nearby. The tract of land where Broxton is now situated was owned many years ago by John Passmore. Mr. Jesse Lott bought the entire tract of land and built a log cabin on what is now the center of town. Broxton was known first as Gully Branch. Broxton also has the credit of having the first newspapers of the county. The publication, known as the Broxton Journal, was printed in 1905.
