I do not know how he obtained the name and unfortunately can no longer get a hold of him. In regards to the census's : before my great grandfather passed away I was given most of his paperwork and pictures and in this I found the copies of census records stamped from the Los Angeles Federal Archives and Records Center. Noah Richard Cabe's June 21, 1900 census has the State as "Ind. Ter.", the County as "Chic Nation" and the Township as "TS4N,R6E". John Jefferson Cabe's June 29,1900 census has the State as "Indian Territory", the County as "Chickasaw" and the Township as "TWP4MR1E". I do not know for sure but am guessing that this is the State of Oklahoma. If you want I can try and make copies of these and mail them to you. I do not know how good the copies would be since there is no date on when my copies were made but they are getting flimsy. The bible connection does sound like a BIG break. Hope we can verify the connection and move even farther up our family tree. Carrie stoobojoj@aol.com Carrie M. Hi extended family members, I have a question of speculation that I would like all to ponder, regarding David Lafayette Cabe born 26 Oct 1826.....Could this David Lafayette Cabe, born 26 Oct 1826, and the David, born 26 Oct 1826, that is in the Bible, handed down from my g-g-grandfather John James Cabe, be one and the same? Again, as I have mentioned before, my family has this Bible that has the following names and dates in it... Janet M. b. 02 July 1822 David b. 26 Oct 1826 Grace C. b. 05 Feb 1828 Kattuth b. 26 April 1830 Amos L. b. 03 June 1833 John B. b. 18 Sep ???? year not known, or unreadable. John B. (above) is thought to be the father of my g-g-grandfather John James Cabe, b. 13 Jan 1859, but not known for sure as my John James was orphaned during the Civil War. But, could David Lafayette Cabe and the David (above) be the same person? If so, maybe David Lafayette is the uncle of my g-g-grandfather, John James. Carrie Pierce, do you have any information on brothers and sisters of David Lafayette Cabe? Let's have some feedback on this question, please. I'm desperate for a connection somewhere. It was formed from part of Buncombe County in 1808, and named in honor of John Haywood, who was the State Treasurer of North Carolina at that time. When it was first established it included all the land that comprises present day Macon,Jackson, Clay, Cherokee, Graham, and Swain counties in North Carolina and part of the Qualla Boundary Cherokee Reservation. At the time of it's creation, Haywood also bordered on the states of Tennessee and Georgia. Today, it is bounded by Swain, Jackson, Buncombe, Transylvania and Madison counties in North Carolina, and Cocke County in Tennessee. The county seat is Waynesville. If you are researching families in Haywood County, it is a good idea to visit these adjacent counties as well. http://www.main.nc.us/jcgs/ A Memorial was filed with the North Carolina General Assembly on December 10, 1850, for a new county to be formed from Haywood and Macon, to be called Jackson. Over 300 persons then residing in Haywood and Macon counties signed the petition asking the new County of Jackson to be formed. Most of them, of course, lived within the bounds of the proposed new county. The Memorial was the first "official" step in the formation of Jackson County.
