The McQueen Family of Johnson Co., Tenn. by Carl B. Neal, Dec 15, 1958
From page 99:
II-3. Thos. McQueen, known as "The Hunter" was born in either N.C. or in JCT in 1780 and died in JCT in 1850. He eloped with and married in 1802 Barbara Wills the daughter of Lewis Wills, Sr. and his wife Catherine Dick. Lewis and Catherine Wills were reared in Lancaster Co. Pa. Lewis owned and lived on a farm in Frederick Co. Va. from 1780 to 1791 and in Washington Co. Va. from 1795 to 4-19-1797. His first acquisition of land in what is now JCT was on Little Doe 2-5-1796. Barbara was born in 1782 in Frederick Co. Va. and died in 1855 in JCT.
Thos. and Barbara McQueen owned and lived on a farm in what was Civil District #2, probably a short distance north of what is Mtn. City and on the Abingdon road. From the 1850 census we know that their near neighbors at that time were Thos' brother Wm. McQueen, their sons Rice and Alfred McQueen and Thos niece Sarah McQueen Donnelly, widow of Wm. Donnelly. He was a son of Robt. Donnelly who came first to Va. from Ireland.
Too little is known of Thos' and Barbara's children. Thirteen are definately of record. Thos. left no will. Barbara in her will dated and recorded in 1855 names 9 daughters. For reasons stated under caption "III-4 Elizabeth" it is believed that Elizabeth was also a daughter and for reasons stated under Caption "III-12 Orville R (Rice)" it is believed beyond a reasonable doubt that Rice was also a son.
