Peter and Edice Whetstone emigrated to Texas from Mississippi in about 1829. They are listed in the Sabine District Census. The first 3 children, Elizabeth, Anderson, and Warrick were born in Arkansas; the other 3, Mary Ann "Polly", Perry, and Johnson (J.S.J.) were all born in Texas.
Peter served in the Republic of Texas Army (1835-36), and was a participant in the Siege of Bexar (San Antonio). He received land grants from the Republic of Texas for his service.
Peter is also the founder of Marshall, Tx., the county seat of Harrison Co. Every land title in Marshall dates back to Peter. He also donated land for a school, courthouse, and church.
Anderson was Captain of Co. H, 10th Texas Cavalry out of Van Zandt Co. Warrick, Perry, and Johnson also served during the Civil War.
Calvin Wade Jones b. 14 Oct 1826 m. Dicey Whetstone d/o Anderson and Margaret. C.W. died 9 Mar 1894 in Postoak, Jack Co., TX. He is buried in the Post Oak Cemetery, and his grave is marked with a beautiful handmade headstone. It is unknown when Dicey died or where she is buried. This is ongoing research. C.W. served with the TST during the Civil War. The TST served as homeland defense against the Union.
Perry Silas Jones was the s/o C.W. and Dicey. He married Rebecca E. Riley in 1889, in TX. Perry and Becky made there home in Oklahoma and are Pioneers of Kiowa Co., moving there when it was Indian Territory and settling there when it became a state.
