We are from the Maciel and Alves family in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil and I am searching as far back as I can reach. These families(in my context)are related to the jews known as the Sephardim or the Anusim ones and their backgrounds. I do have old pratices from my mother and ancentors showing our jewish root alive until nowadays. Also we have to consider(or at least think about)the name MACIEL for instance related to the Hebrew words Ma( How ), SIG( bad people ) and El(Lord, The Eternal one)and its meaning (How bad people Lord?) related to the persacutions in the old times, and also ALVES as being AL( No ) Ve(s) second or contrary as having a meaning like (Not Being Contrary) related both names to the Inquisition Time.
