      20. Christopher Lovejoy, born October 22, 1745 in Hollis, NH. He was the son of 40. Christopher Lovejoy and 41. Anne More. He met 21. Rebecca Parker.

      21. Rebecca Parker, born May 16, 1752 in Billerica, Middlesex Co., MA130. She was the daughter of 42. Samuel Parker and 43. Anne Tarbell.

  Notes for Rebecca Parker:
Rebecca Parker was found guilty of "the crime of fornication with a person to the said Jurors unknown whereof she then afterward had a bastard child born of her body...". According to the court the act of fornication took place on the "last day of March last..." being March of 1771. Samuel was born in December 6, 1771.
Samuel is listed as "son of Rebeckah Parker" in Westford VR at the time of birth. His death is recorded in Carlisle VR as "son of Christopher and Reebaca Parker". The only Christopher Lovejoy of the correct age is the one who married in Hollis, NH to Hannah Kemp on June 9, 1768 and disappeared after that. No other record of him has been found as of yet.
Rebecca Parker married Nathaniel Cowdry March 11, 1773 and Samuel was baptized June 6, 1773 in Chelmsford and "Samuel, son of Rebecca Cowdry." It was far too early for it to be a child of her new marriage. In addition, all other children were listed as son or daughter of "Nathaniel and Rebecca".

Marriage Notes for Christopher Lovejoy and Rebecca Parker:
Christopher Lovejoy and Rebecca Parker were never married. In reference to the birth of Samuel Lovejoy, Westford Vital Records states "Samuel, s. Rebeckah Parker, at Billerica, Dec. 6, 1771." In order to find reference to Christopher Lovejoy we have to go to Carlisle Vital Records where we find the death of Samuel Lovejoy recorded as follows: "Samuel, m., carpenter, b. Billerica, s. Christopher and Reebaca Parker, typhus fever, Mar. 22, 1847, a. 75 y. 3 m. 17 d." The only Christopher Lovejoy found at that time is the one born in Hollis, NH in 1745. He married Hannah Kemp on June 9, 1767 but was not found in Hollis after that time. I have found no record of either Christopher or Hannah anywhere after that date, and the supposition that he is the father of Samuel is based on his age and his removal from Hollis about that time.
Rebecca Parker was found guilty of fornication in 1772 having "had a bastard child born of her body" by an person unknown to the court. This provides us with no clue as to the identity of Samuel's father. The only clue we have is in Samuel's death record.
The name Christopher is unique to a single line of Lovejoys and so far has not been found occurring in any other of the Lovejoy lines. Hopefully additional information will be forthcoming to support or reject this theory.

Child of Christopher Lovejoy and Rebecca Parker is:
10 i.   Samuel Lovejoy, born December 06, 1771 in Billerica, Middlesex Co., MA; died March 22, 1847 in Carlisle, Middlesex Co., MA; married Anna Heald December 01, 1796 in Carlisle, Middlesex Co., MA.

      22. Samuel Heald, born March 27, 1743 in Concord, Middlesex Co., MA131; died May 11, 1829 in Carlisle, Middlesex Co., MA132. He was the son of 44. Samuel Heald and 45. Rebecca Fletcher. He married 23. Mary Hunt March 24, 1768 in Concord, Middlesex Co., MA133.

      23. Mary Hunt, born August 10, 1745 in Concord, Middlesex Co., MA133; died October 22, 1822 in Carlisle, Middlesex Co., MA134. She was the daughter of 46. Simon Hunt and 47. Anna Blood.

Notes for Samuel Heald:
According to "Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors", pages 654-5, Samuel was a 1st Lieutenant in 1776 and in 1779 was listed as a Captain.

Notes for Joseph Merrick:
In Chase's "History of Haverhill", a Joseph Merrick is listed on page 486, in the "Company roll of Capt. Samuel W. Duncan's Company of Light Infantry, in the fifth Regiment Second Brigade and Second Division". Our Joseph is of the right age and was living near Haverhill at the time. I cannot state that it is definitely our Joseph.

      28. Enos Carleton163,164, born January 01, 1756 in Boxford, Essex Co., MA165; died 1811 in Haverhill, Essex Co., MA166. He was the son of 56. George Carleton and 57. Abigail Tyler. He married 29. Elizabeth (Betty) Burbank August 15, 1785 in Boxford, Essex Co., MA167.

      29. Elizabeth (Betty) Burbank, born March 13, 1766 in Bradford, Essex Co., MA168; died January 15, 1831 in Bradford, Essex Co., MA169. She was the daughter of 58. Stephen Burbank and 59. Betty Hopkinson.

Notes for Enos Carleton:
Administration of Enos CARLETON's estate was granted to Ebenezer CARLETON, junior (probably his oldest son) on October 7, 1811. An inventory of his estate was presented to the court on November 11, 1811 by Ebenezer. It was appraised by Francis KIMBALL, Aaron PARKER and William GREENOUGH with a total value of $1243.06 plus real estate of $1575.00. Of interest is a note against Benjamin and Samuel BURBANK for $198.08. I feel Elizabeth(Betty) BURBANK who married Enos is probably the daughter of Stephen and Betty (HOPKINSON) BURBANK. Benjamin and Samuel are their sons which gives more weight to Elizabeth(Betty) being their daughter.
Guardianship of several of the children was granted to William GREENOUGH on March 2, 1812. The children were: Betsey, age 19; Stephen, age 17; Abigail, age 15; Horatio, age 13; Dilla (Fidelia), age 11; and Charles, age 8. The fact that he had a son named Stephen gives more weight to Elizabeth (Betty) being the daughter of Stephen BURBANK.
"Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors" lists Enos Carlton as a private in Capt. John Cushing's company of minute-men, which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775. He served 5 days. He also served in 1776.
In George Wingate Chase's "History of Haverhill", Enos is on the list of "Householders in Haverhill" for 1798 (page 467) with a home valued at $170, which is near the low end of the list.

More About Enos Carleton:
Occupation: yeoman170
Will Written: None

  Notes for Elizabeth (Betty) Burbank:
Elizabeth (Betty) BURBANK was born about 1766 based on her age at the time of her death (Bradford vital records gives her date of death as 15 January 1831, age 64 years). This year of birth falls in line with the Betty BURBANK born to Stephen and Betty (HOPKINSON) BURBANK.
When she married Enos she was listed as Elizabeth in Bradford vital records which could be an error. She was listed as Betsey for the birth of their only recorded child, for her second marriage to Free Groves PARKER and at her death.
