Notes for GEORGE ANSPACH:

He lived in PA in Rehrersburg. He was a Democrat and held several political offices, including the post of assessor. He also was a farmer. He moved to Montgomery County, OH in 1833 with his family, making a three week trip in a Conestoga Wagon train. He partnered with John Ballerman, who also came from PA, to purchase 200 acres of land. A year later he sold his interest in that land to Mr. Ballerman, and bought his own 120 acre farm in Miami Twp., Montgomery Co.

He and his family were members of St. John's Lutheran Church, on Gebhart Rd. Miamisburg, OH. His farm was several miles from the church located just across from what is now the Dayton Mall.

His Estate Record ref. F06080#1946 of 16 pages is located at the Records Center and Archives, Montgomery Co., OH. It was final on November 19, 1847.

His Gravestone has the date of March 31, 1774 as his birth. Film (020,528)G.S., Salt Lake City, Utah of The Evangelical Lutheran Congregation of Rehrersburg, Berks, PA gives March 31, 1772 as his date of birth and his father Jacob Anspach.

Notes for JOHN ANSPACH:

I have doubts that this John who married Catherine Sheets was the same John, son of George.

On March 9, 1829, John and Catherine Anspach were involved in legal action against her son-in-law, John Landon. It seems that Landon had convinced Catharine to give to him the 53 acres she received upon the death of her first husband, so that Catherine's new husband, John Anspach, would not give the land to his children by his first marriage. The law suit states problems that John and Catherine were having about the land and that they were separated but together at the time of the action. It also states that both had children by previous marriages.

John Anspach is listed in Madison Twp. Butler Co tax record in 1830 and John Anspaugh in 1830, Mad. Twp. census. John Aunspaugh is listed in the 1830 census in Jackson Twp., Montgomery County.

Jacob and Elizabeth lived on his Father's farm for several years after their marriage. They then rented a farm near Centerville, OH for three years. In 1856, they purchased a farm of 87 acres NE of Dayton in Butler Twp. Montgomery County, OH. He retired and sold the farm in 1883 and bought a home in Chambersburg, OH. He was one of the charter members of St. John's Lutheran Church in Vandalia, OH. He was a deacon and elder in the church.

Notes for DR. PAUL PARKER ANSPACH:

Dr. Anspach was a graduate of Wittenberg College and Hamma Divinity School and served as an officer in the Air Corps during World War I. Following his graduation from the seminary, he served as an assistant to the president of Wittenberg University during a financial campaign.

In 1932, while on furlough as a missionary to China, he completed graduate studies at Presbyterian Theological Seminary and Princeton University, and received his master of arts degree. He served as a missionary to the United Lutheran Mission in Tsing-tao, China, from 1925 to 1940. In 1938-39 he served as a delegate from China to the International Missionary Conference in Madras India. After returning to the USA, he served as Pastor of the First English Lutheran Church of Columbus, OH and then at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ashland, OH. He was sent back to China in 1946 to help reopen schools decommissioned during World War II. He returned in 1947 and then served as staff secretary of the Board of Foreign Missions in New York City. In June 1948, he accepted a call to become Pastor of Second Lutheran Church in Springfield, OH, Serving until 1952. He then served in Malaya, for the United Lutheran Church and in 1953 as Staff Secretary of the ULC Board of Foreign Missions.

He held a number of awards and honors. He was past president of the Wittenberg Alumni Association and received a meritorious award for outstanding church work in 1947. Hamma Divinity School conferred the degree of Doctor of Divinity on him in 1941.
