He was the son of 2. Charles F. Gerhart and 3. Anna Helen Gibson. He married (1) Beulah Fern DeReus¹ June 29, 1934 in Valeria, IA¹. She was born May 26, 1916 in IA¹. She was the daughter of Claud DeReus and Caroline Elizabeth Emery.

Notes for Clifford Earl Gerhart:
After Cliff's father died, his mother gave him to his grandparents (Gibson's) to be raised. His older brother Louis was given to their aunt Anna and her husband Jeptha Baty to be raised.

Cliff served as mayor in Valeria, Iowa from 1950 to 1962 or 1963. During his term as mayor, fire boxes were placed at block corners, each containing a fire extinguisher. Cliff served as Mayor in Mingo, Iowa twice, first in 1966 and again in 1968. He resigned both times.

Notes for Beulah Fern DeReus:
In the Mingo Centennial Book (1984) on page 67, it says, "Beulah DeReus Gerhart was a midwife at Valeria from about 1938 to about 1960. Her mother, Carrie Emery DeReus, did the same from 1920 till 1935." However, Beulah says they did not deliver babies, but instead cared for sick neighbors.
