Notes for Robert P. or Fletcher Elliott:
Married in Campbell Cty, Va by Rev. Wm. Peerman.
Robert Fletcher Elliott died of a gunshop wound inflicted by a Henry Clay. Robert is buried on Rt 24 (right of Rt 29 South) about 2-3- miles, next to a road in a wooded area behind a brickhouse and next to a brown mobile home. The trailer and land is owned by Henry Little - 804-821-0662. There is a UDC marker there. (This info from Lucy Elliott Harris)

Robert's neighbor was a Henry Clay. Henry had a dog who kept coming over to his house and tearing things up, so one day Robers wife threw hot water on the dog.Henry found out and confronted Robert. They talked and thought things were worked out. Later that evening Henry came back over and went to Roberts barn - then sent one of the sons to the house to get him. Robert thought it was odd , so he took his pistol with him. When he got to the barn, Clay shot him and Robert shot back and wounded Clay. Robert died later that evening. Clay's family sent him off in fear of someone trying to kill him because everyone was so mad about the killing. (Several family members have tried to reseach this information at the Campbell County Court House, but have had problems proving anything. It seems as though there was records of the incident, but no trial information and the story was kept very quite.) (This story was told to me (Carolyn Austin) at the 1999 Evans/Elliott Family Reunion, by Lucy Elliott Harris).
