Former County Judge Died at his Home Near New West Salem

(summarized) Andrew Huffman was born in Maryland 3 Jan 1821, and died 23 Nov 1905, aged 84 years, 10 months, and 20 days. His boyhood days were spend mostly in West Virginia. He came to Illinois with his parents at age 18. They came by river in a flatboat to Mt. Carmel and from there directly to the farm now owned by his youngest son, Grant, where he lived continuously for over 65 years. There were at this time only four dwellings between Mr. Huffman's and the Wabash River.

In 1845, he married Mary Ground and had eight children. His wife, two sons, and two daughters preceded him "to their home above." His wife died 23 Feb 1891.

Mr. Huffman was elected associate justice of the peace for Edwards County in 1865 and again in 1869. He was elected again the third time, making 13 years of continuous service for the county. He became a member of the United Bretheren Church in 1857 and remained a faithful member and strong financial supporter of the church. Only two of the original members are still living.
