He married POLLIE DODSON 01 Aug 1880 in Tarrant Co, TX, daughter of R. DODSON. She was born 08 Nov 1858 in Tennessee, and died 18 Jun 1932 in Donley Co, Texas.

Harrison Ground was born in Dallas County Texas, and lived for a time in 1900 in Archer County Texas, and Iowa before moving to Clarenden, Texas.

W. H. (Bill) Ground's father's occupation being that of farming, he naturally chose a similar calling and a good portion of his young life was spent at working for his father who owned a small stock of cattle. After his 21st birthday, he began his own small herd. He came west to Archer City with them in 1875 and in a short time he had a small ranch located at Onion Creek. After suffering great loss during a severe winter, he was able to round up only 300 head. With these he moved to Greer County, locating a ranch on Turky Creek where he once more built up a herd of 500. He sold out to Stiles and East for $5,000.

Ground invested this money in Archer County real estate. The family continued living here for many years. His wife was the former Polly Dodson, daughter of R. Dodson, a Tennessee farmer.

Bill Ground was one of the original cowboys who worked on the ranch established by Hillery Bedford and Bob Melton. The OX brand ranch was one of the first ranches in Archer County.

He married TEXAS ANNE LOWE 17 Oct 1878 in Ellis Co, TX, P.W. Lowe, JP, daughter of ISAAC LOWE and MARTHA BRYSON. She was born 28 Jun 1861 in Texas, and died 11 Nov 1932 in Baird, Callahan Co, TX.

Cemetery at Baird can be found by going north of I-20 at Baird exit quarter mile, turn into left cemetery. Ground plot is first on right. Was recently (in 1987) improved and all good stones).

The above census and cemetery records appeared in Ground-Grounds Family Association Newsletter Vol. IV, No. 3, p. 3, submitted by Shonna Lawhorn of Sweetwater, Texas. It was unclear if Stephen Ground and Julia Copeland were living in the same dwelling in Noland County, and the source of the information that Julia A. Copeland was a Ground(s) was not given. When I recorded this census, I did not record Julia Copeland, which makes me think the connection comes from elsewhere.
