"Thomas Furnish moved from Indiana about 1878, settling in Sedgwick County, Kansas, near Valley Center, where he farmed and was appointed street commissioner in 1886. After the death of his first wife, he returned to Indiana for a time. Following his second marriage, he again went to Kansas, making his residence in Wichita."

He mentioned Uncle Frank had come to see him and brought Guy and Ira with him. He also mentioned visiting Uncle Frank in Napa, California. He also mentioned Geo. Whitman, a 17th cousin in Company A (Des Moines) "is relation to all our relation up there, he is going with me." (The Whitmans came from Kentucky to Warren County, Illinois, and married into the Butler family).
