57. WILLIAM G.6 BECKHAM (MARGARET5 GROUND, ROBERT4, ROBERT3, EDWARD2, ROBERT1) was born 20 Aug 1854 in Warren Co, KY, and died 15 Aug 1927 in Grant Co, OK. He married (1) MARY B. SLAUGHTER 1886. She was born 03 Jan 1866 in "Bee" b. Kentucky, and died 21 Jan 1948 in Oklahoma. He married (2) SARAH FRANCES RUSSELL Oct 1899 in prob. in Kentucky. She was born 03 Jan 1866 in Kentucky, and died 21 Jan 1948 in Oklahoma.

Notes for W
ILLIAM G. BECKHAM:
Barbara Jean Hathcock gives the middle initial as well as death date and location. I knew that William had gone with the rest of the family in 1880 to Kansas, but did not know that like his brother, Nathaniel, he had gone on to Oklahoma.

She also adds information on the marriages and children (I had only "Bee" and one child, Bess).

Her notes indicate that William G. Beckham worked as a carpenter and painter. In 1904 he moved to Oklahoma, when Lamont was a thriving town of 650. Many new homes and bars were being built. There were three carpenters and two lumber yards in the town, and all wer busy. William agreed with the town's existing carpenters to do only painting and paper hanging.

Notes for C
ONSTANTINE ABLE TALLEY:
Barbara Jean Hathcock notes that the father of Constantine is not really proven. She cites me as her source of information as well as James Heidelbaugh. She shows the following US Census sketches:

1860 - Barren County, KY
Division 1, p. 346
Talley, William

1860 - Barren County, KY
Glasgow, p. 922
Talley, Clard and Constant

1870
Glasgow Junction Precinct, p. 627
Tally, Copnstantinable

p. 627
Tally Marinda

p. 607
Tally, Permelia

Cave City Precinct, p. 534
Tally, Lev

James Heidelbaugh gives the following information:

Constantine Abel Talley Jr. is listed in the 1900 US Census living in Twin Groves Township, Greenwood County, Kansas, and in the 1910 US Census in Lamont, Grant County, Oklahoma. Bettie Talley is listed in the 1910 and 1920 US Census living in Greenwood County, Kansas.

Since their second child was born in 1881 in Kansas, this indicates they moved to Kansas between 1879 and 1880.

Denton, Texas Newspaper: 18 Jul 1923:

Edward Ground, 1613 W. Mulberry St., pioneer citizen of Texas, died late Wednesday at his home here after a long illness. He was born in Kentucky and at the age of 7 moved to Texas with his father and settled in Dallas Co. The county at that time was infested with Indians and Ground got some training (to be used later in the Civil War) fighting the savages.

When he was 19 years old he joined Co. A, 19th Texas Cavalry and served out the war with Parsons Brigade. After the Southern demobilization he returned to Texas and married Miss Francis Lowe, who had been in the same wagon train that brought Ground to Texas.

A few years after his marriage he moved to Tarrant Co., Texas and engaged in the cattle business and lived there until he retired 12 years ago. In 1913 he came to Denton and he and his wife have since lived with their daughter, Miss Mattie Ground, a member of the Teachers College faculty.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. His wife, one son, Henry Ground of Dallas, six daughters survive.

The body was taken to Midlothian Thursday morning and funeral services and burial were to be held at the Valley Cemetery at 3:30 Thursday afternoon.

Notes for M
ARY FRANCES LOWE:
Waxahachie Newspaper, date unknown, but abt 1929:

Mrs. Ground, early pioneers dies at 88.

Death claimed the Ellis Co. Pioneer at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Tom C. Forrest, 1016 W. Marvin Ave. Monday night. Mrs. Mary Frances Ground, 88, was born in Illinois in 1841. Her parents came to Texas when she was quite small and settled six miles North of Midlothian in Pleasant Valley, Dallas County. She spent her childhood a half mile from the Valley Cemetery, where her body will rest beside that of her husband. She was the daughter of Isaac and Mary Lowe and was the last surviving member of her family of nine children.

On March 1, 1866, she was married to Ed Ground. To this union 8 children were born, 1 son and 7 daughters.

Mrs. Ground joined the church when she was young and was active as long as her health permitted. Since her husband's death 6 years ago she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Forest.

Funeral services were held at the residence on W. Marvin Ave. Tuesday afternoon with the internment in the Valley Cemetery.
