470. CLIFTON⁸ GROUND (PLEASANT⁷, ROBERT⁶, WILLIAM⁵, ROBERT⁴, ROBERT³, EDWARD², ROBERT¹) was born 14 Dec 1921 in Three Forks, Warren Co, KY, and died 14 May 1985 in Nashville, Davidson Co, TN. He married MADINE MOODY 02 Oct 1948 in Simpson Co, KY. She was born 09 Jan 1921 in Warren Co, KY, and died 11 Apr 1997 in Bowling Green, Warren Co, KY.

Notes for CLIFTON GROUND:
A veteran of World War II, a building contractor, and member of the Eastwood Baptist Church. A native of Warren County, Kentucky, was in the hospital in Nashville for some months before his death.

Many of the details of this family come from Sue Lynn Stone and members of her family having first-hand information. Early information found in the Ground/Grounds Family Association newsletter and "Plymouth Rock to the Pacific" was incomplete and also contained errors.

Additional information was obtained from Kentucky Death Records. Clifton Ground is listed as age 63, no place of death given, residence Warren County, death date 5/14/1985, Volume 906, Certificate 01198, Death Volume 1985.

Additional details were sent by "kylowe" -- "rskjlowe@scrtc.com" (she gives no name in her email, but this is undoubtedly Karla Jane Ground Lowe). KJL's information differs from Sue Lynn Stones (SLS) as follows:

Clifton Ground birth - December 14 instead of SLS December 13;
Madine Moody - born Warren County instead of Allen County; provides day of month of birth
Marriage occurred in Simpson County instead of SLS Warren County.
Madine Moody - KJL gives 11 Apr to add to death date provided by SLS

Since this family is Karla's immediate family, I have used Karla's information where it differs from Sue's and Wes'.

Notes for RUBY GROUND:
Previously, "we" had only two marriages for Ruby, but when she wrote Wes Mullenneix to let him know about the death of her brother, she was Ruby Jones. Also, in obit of brother, William, she is Ruby Jones, as well as obit of brother Ruble. No mention of her husband is made in her obituary reprinted in the Ground/Grounds Family Newsletter, Vol. XI, No. 4, p. 8:

"Ruby Ground Jones, 70, of Lafayette, IN, died at 3:35 PM Apr. 2, at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center. A Smiths Grove native, former owner and operator of Jones Windmill Motel, Member of Church of Christ in Christian Union, Member of Parkinson's Awareness Foundation in Indianapolis, 30 year member of Eagle's Auxiliary.

"Daughter of the late Pleasant and Vadie Howell Ground. Funeral was at 11:30 a.m April 6, at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Body was cremated. Survived by one daughter, Donna Clark of Lafayette, 2 sisters, Maydell (sic) Holton and Frankie Stone of Bowling Green and 3 brothers, Elivis (sic) of Kansas City, MO, Maxie of Smiths Grove, KY and Aubrey of Bullhead City, AZ."

Maxie Ground is the faithful cousin who cares for the old family cemetery at Three Forks in Warren County, Kentucky.

Sue Lynn Stone (suelynnstone@earthlink.net) writes in April 2000 and provides other details of this family, including the middle names of the children.

Susie Wright sends corrections in September, 2000, stating that the information comes from daughter Nancy, who works in the Warren County, Kentucky, court house. Susie adds complete birth dates for the children and corrections on a couple of their names and spellings. She also provides marriage information, where applicable.

Some of the information for this family group comes from Susan Elaine Ground Wright (rmwright79@hotmail.com) in August 2000. She says that her father worked for Diamond Chain in Indianapolis, Indiana. His uncle Robert Ground had gotten him the job when he moved there after graduating high school.

Notes for ELVIS GROUND:
Both Elvis and Pearline were cremated and will eventually be buried in the Ground Family Cemetery at Smith's Grove, Kentucky.

Susie Wright says that Elvis only learned of the existence of his son, Stephen A. Coy, in about 1996.

Notes for PEARLINE ..:
Pearline was married before she married Elvis Ground, but her husband's name is not known. She had a daughter named Judy who was born about 1954 and married a man named James ... They had two sons and lived in the Kansas City area in September 2000.
