2. WILLIAM³ BOYLSTON (THOMAS², THOMAS¹) was born 1680 in SEE NOTES b. Calvert Co, MD, and died 1761. He married SABRA POLK 1705 in Piney Ridge, Dorchester Co, MD. She was born Abt. 1680 in Prince William Co, VA?, and died Unknown.\\\\

Notes for WILLIAM BOYLSTON:
Note that no attempt has been made to prove this part of the line. However, it is generally accepted by researchers, and as information is available on two other children of William (besides David), it is included.

William Boylston is said to have married:

1. Mary Presley - in Westmoreland Co, VA, daughter of Peter Presley Jr. and wife Elizabeth Thompson (most sources seem to place the children with this wife).

2. Mary Hopkins

3. Mary Thornton, daughter of William Thornton and Jane Presley

4. Sabra Polk in 1705, Maryland

5. Margaret Triplett

As mentioned in other places, a discrepancy in the birth date of David arises here. Some sources list him as the 3rd child, born in 1710, some in 1716 in Prince William County, VA. Either date works out with these parents.

It seems probable that William had more than one wife, however, since the birth of the children in nearly every scenario, spans nearly 30 years, an unlikely achievement for only one woman.

Chuck Boydstun supplies the descendancy of several of those families who retained the name "Boylston":

LDS Ancestral files sent to me in March 1998 by Richard Jennings of Austin, Texas show a birth year of 1693 for William Boylston. The researcher will find many discrepancies in this file, including two children born in the same year in different states.

World Family Tree Vol. 13, Pedigree #344 contains a large amount of information on the descendancy of Thomas Boylston and Elizabeth Vaulx (said to be grandparents of William Boylston). Information included is:

William Boylston b. 1680 (another source that seems to follow this same logic has the birth year listed as 1693!) Calvert Co, MD, md. 1) Mary Presley in Westmoreland Co, VA, dau of Peter Jr. & Elizabeth Thompson. He married 2) Mary Hopkins. He married 3) Mary Thornton, daughter of William Thornton. He married 4) Sabra Polk in 1705.

As this line advances all four marriages occurring before William was age 25 (and even younger, for the other source), it seems clear that the compiler is attempting to retain all the possible marriages. All children in this pedigree are attributed to Sabra Polk:

Shirley Nobles Erickson (shirley@htcomp.net), who lists marriages of William as 1) Mary Presley in Westmoreland County, VA; Sabra Polk 1705 Piney Ridge, Dorchester, MD; 3) Margart Triplett; 4) Mary Thornton; 5) Mary Hopkins; attributes all the children to Mary Presley. She may do this for convenience, as I have done, since she lists Mary Presley as the first wife, and Sabra Polk as 2nd wife (married in 1705), but David, whom she shows born in 1716 (I have 1726), was born after the second marriage. Shirley lists the children of William and Mary Presley Boylston as:

2. David b. 1716
3. Thomas
4. John
5. George
6. Presley
7. Benjamin

It should also be noted that the compiler of Pedigree #344 shows William's brother, John b. 1678 as marrying ...Harkney 1698 in Cecil MD.

Cindy Owens discovered a 6 Feb 1792 deed (full text under Presley Boydstun), which mentions Benjamin, but does not say he is living or dead. It refers to "John Welch, brother-in-law of Benj. Boydston," who gave deposition as to the history of the land in question, and further states that John Welch had married a sister of Benjamin's wife. It does not name the wife. Other surnames in the deed, not thought to have any relation are: Alien (or Allen), Beaths, Beller, Browning, Foreman, Hite, Israel, Johnston, Keating, Metcalf, Osborn, Owens, Sappington, Shepherd, Swearingen, Turner, Williams, Van Meter, Yorke

Notes for SABRA POLK:
Dates found in LDS Ancestral files sent to me in March 1998 by Richard Jennings of Austin, Texas. This same file lists Sabra's death in 1720 in Maryland.

Notes for THOMAS BOYLSTON:
One source has Thomas b. 1718 in Prince William County, Virginia, and marrying 1) Patience Triplett, and 2) Elizabeth Wallace.

A deed dated 6 Feb 1792 shows a Thomas Boydstone of Berkley County, Virginia selling to Joshua and John Writson Browning and Roseman Keating, all of Maryland. The deed, and depositions, shown in the notes under Thomas' brother, Presley, indicates that at this time, Thomas is very old, without either wife or children.
