This is possibly the family who has a descendant Doyle Bertran Boydstun of 320 N. 5th, West Helena, AR. His father was Gurvis Boydstun and his grandfather was Thomas Jefferson Boydstun who moved from Memphis TN to Arkansas. He may have owned a lumber yard in Memphis before he moved.

Terry Spellman (spellman@ccis.com) writes in May 1999. She gives Thomas Jefferson's birth location as Tennessee. She also refers to his wife as "Mary Ann W. Jennings" and gives their marriage date as 29 Oct 1857. She supplies her forebear Edmond Lester Boydstun b. 19 Dec 1862 Benton Co, AR, d. 30 Jun 1943, Tulia, Swisher, Texas.

Certainly an error was made, and I am guessing the true death date is 1938.

Edmond's brother, Abner, is buried at another cemetery in Washita County, Oklahoma. I have entered "Annie.." as Edmond's wife and the child, Marvin B., as their child in order to keep him in the active index. Probably this is Edmond's marriage and child, but that is not definitely known.

124. DAVID CUNNINGHAM8 BOYDSTUN (THOMAS7, JOHN6 BOYDSTON, GEORGE5, DAVID4, WILLIAM3 BOYLSTON, THOMAS2, THOMAS1) was born 18 Oct 1828 in near Lookout Mt. Valley, Hamilton Co, TN, and died 28 Aug 1912 in Stonewall Co, TX. He married SHERENA ELIZABETH BARNHILL Abt. 1854 in prob Benton Co, AR, daughter of ABEL BARNHILL and ANNE ... She was born 17 May 1834 in Arkansas, and died 19 Jan 1916 in Stonewall Co, TX.

Notes for DAVID CUNNINGHAM BOYDSTUN:
Chuck Boydstun supplies information and children on this marriage. He says that David first married Sherena and married Heddie second in 1855. He has Sherena bearing children from 1854 to 1877. This alone causes a problem, as with this scenareo, Sherena continued to bear children after her husband married a second time.

I previously had only Unity born 1856 as a daughter of Heddie Cunningham (the only wife). Chuck supplies the complete birth date of this child, 16 Dec 1856.

Note that Abel is born 1854 and the remainder of the children attributed to Sherena are born after 1860 -- a 5-year span that easily accomodates a gap between marriages.

Could David Boydstun first have married Heddie in 1855 (David would be 20 years old at this point), having the child Unity in 1856? Since Chuck Boydstun says they were married in Benton County, Arkansas, this choice of Heddie as first wife conforms to the migration of David, born in Tennessee, moving to Arkansas, and later to Texas.

Then Abel would probably be the child of Heddie, since he was also born in Arkansas and the rest of the children (born after 1860) were born in Texas.

Now, in October 1998, Bobby J. Wadsworth, a descendant of Unity Boydston, writes with information that David C. Boydston married Sherena Elizabeth Barnhill, and has no information on a first wife. She shows the family in Williamson County, TX in 1860: With him are his wife and two children, Abel (age 5) and Unity (age4). Another child, John Boydston, age 1, died March 1860 of winter fever.

Two marriages are certainly possible, and I will certainly keep the references in the notes, but prefer for now, to attribute all the children to Sherena Elizabeth Barnhill, who, according to Bobby Wadsworth, also lived in Benton County, Arkansas. The original information on the marriage to Heddie comes from Domonoske's book on the Boydstun family (3rd Edition, p. 81), which, although quite comprehensive, is known to contain many errors. Until one of our family researchers is able to substantiate this marriage...

Deeds show that David Boydston bought land in Williamson County in April 1870.

The 1900 Census of Stonewall Co, TX shows David C. Boydston b. Oct 1831 (AL?) with wife Elizabeth b. May 1834 AR and children William B. (b. May 1860 TX), Amanda E. (b. Apr 1866 TX), and Henry (b. Mar 1872 TX).
