East Union Township, Wayne Co, OH, and died 06 Sep 1903 in Wichita, Sedgwick Co, KS. She married JONATHAN PIPER 17 Aug 1871 in Orrville, OH. He was born 17 Aug 1837 in Amberson Valley, PA, and died 13 Jul 1916 in Cornelia, GA.

Notes for E
MMA BOYDSTON:
Emma Boydston Piper renamed herself "Emily" and information about her family is contained in the papers of Col. E. G. Piper (relationship uncertain). Her children were born in the family home on Vine Street in Orrville, Ohio. Her great granddaughter, Patricia Ann, has the lapel watch with her initials "EBP" engraved on it.

Notes for J
ONATHAN PIPER:
Jonathan Piper/Peiper, was of Orrville, Ohio, when he married. Emma Boydstun was then living in East Union Township in Wayne County near Orrville.

Jonathan served as a private in the Company of Capt. O. B. MacKnight in the 9th Regiment, Pennsylvania Cavalry Volunteers from 1 Nov 1861 until he was discharged in December 1864 at Kingsbridge, Georgia. He was injured during his service, apparently in Tennessee, where a horse stepped on his chest while he was sleeping. The injury was later complicated by typhoid fever and required a year in a military hospital in Knoxville (Sep 1863-Aug 1864). His discharge papers indicate that he was age 24, 5' 7" tall, of light complexioin, dark hair and eyes, and a carpenter by trade. The discharge is dated 24 Dec 1864, Kingsbridge, Georgia. Pension Certificate 715051.

According to family tradition, Jephaniah "Jeph" Piper of Dry Run, Amberson Valley, Pennsylvania may have been his father. Amberson Valley is in the northern portion of Franklin County, and the hamlet of Amberson is just north of the Blue Mountain twin tunnels of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and is just west of the western tip of Perry County.

Jonathan apparently operated the "Peiper Store" at 1046 South Lawrence Avenue in Wichita, Kansas, where an old photo shows D. E. and Randall Piper in front of the store in about 1902-1903. (Archives of Gardner Piper).

Jonathan and Emily Piper lived before that in Lyons, Nebraska, where a photo of his was made about 1891 (archives of Gardner Piper). Jonathan bought a lot next to his son in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and in 1911 built a small house on it. His son moved to Cordelia, Georgia, in 1915 and Jonathan, being ill, was brought to live with the family there until his death.

  Notes for DAVID ELLIS PIPER:

128. WILLIAM C.8 BOYDSTUN (GEORGE WASHINGTON7, DAVID6, DAVID5, DAVID4 BOYDSTON, WILLIAM3 BOYLSTON, THOMAS2, THOMAS1) was born 1857, and died 1917. He married MARY ALABAMA SMITH 21 Mar 1879 in Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, daughter of JAMES SMITH and MARY HAWKINS. She was born 19 Dec 1859 in "Bam" b Caledonia, MS, and died 11 Mar 1934 in Matoy, OK.

Notes for W
ILLIAM C. BOYDSTUN:
According to Don Gentner, Lucy's sister also married "William C. Boydstun" in 1882 near Caddo Oklahoma. This William C. was born 1857 and died 1917, according to his records. It is not certain that this is the correct William C. Boydstun who married Mary Alabama Smith. The selection was a process of elimination and offers a stong probability. This is assumed to be the son of George Boydstun. The names of the children of both Williams duplicate in many instances, and it is thought that the children may be mixed up.

So we have three William C(avanaugh) Boydstuns who married ladies named Smith. It's almost enough to make a person go cuckoo.
