Notes for JESSE ANSALUM EKES: Jesse was married to Rushie Warren prior to marrying Martha Elizabeth and had children. One of his descendants from this marriage is Laurice Bell (LriceMB@aol.com) who provides dates and other information on this family line in March 1999. According to Laurice, family information is that Jesse Ekes and his 2nd wife's sister Mamie (Mary T.)'s husband, James J. Griffin were cousins. She has been unable to determine the exact relation. Laurice Bell writes again in August 1999 inquiring about Jesse Ekes. She also gives his middle name and some other details. In this email, she gives Jesse Ekes wifes as (1) Rebecca Jane Elizabeth Rush Warren (md. Neshoba Co, MS) and (2) Mattie Boydston (md. in Windston Co, MS). Previously I had the #1 wife as "Rushie Warren." |

Notes for JOHN THOMAS BOYDSTUN: The family moved to New Mexico in 1917 and filed on land there. Herb filed on 160 acres which he never claimed, and relatives speculate that he may have gone to war in World War I. |

Notes for SARAH ELIZA ALVORA FLEMING: Bill Boydstun (yankee@wt.net) provides information that his descendancy from James Boydstun Sr. is as follows: James Sr. and Mary Prewitt (Pruitt) John & Nancy Ann Gardner Bodystun (TN/KY) John Gardner & Elizabeth Atterberry Boydstun (KY/IL) James Berry & Hannah Caroline Rea Boydstun (IL/TX) John Thomas & Sarah Eliza Alvora Fleming Boydstun (TX/NM/TX) William Ralph "Bunk" & Phyllis Viola Burleson Boydstun (NM/TX) Karl Marx & Lettie Bruce Boydstun (NM/TX) He does not say this, but I'm guessing he is the son of Karl Marx & Lettie Bruce Boydstun. |

Notes for HENRY SANFORD BOYDSTUN: The town of Boydston, Texas, was named after Henry S. Boydstun. This information from Bill Boydstun (yankee@wt.net) 14 Dec 1998. He adds: Sometime about 1887, Henry and his father, James Berry Boydstun, went from Fort Worth, Texas, to the Old Clarendon (TX) area on the north banks of the north fork of the Red River and passed through what is now Amarillo, Texas, into Northern New Mexico, but returned to Old Clarendon where Henry filed on the first section that was completely on the plains, being 18 miles northwest of Clarendon. The first filing was forfeited, but Henry filed again. The Boydstun family, Henry and Mary and their 6 children, moved to their new home on the plains and spudded in a dugout 10' x 12'. On 28 Apr 1890, Eddie Boydstun was born and died four days later. Henry went to Clarendon for a casket. Eddie Boydstun was the first person buried in what is now the Boydstun Cemetery located in what was the southwest corner of the section filed on by Henry. Later, Henry deeded 2 acres to the county to be used for cemetery purposes forever. The trustees were Ed Johnson, John Frazier, and Levi Angel. Bob gives as source of this information an article by Lucille Suttle Merrick in "A Chronicle of Carson County," Vol. II, by Mrs. Ralph E. Randel and the Carson County Historical Survey Committee. |
|
Notes for MARY FRANCES JAMES: Mary was advised by the doctor to seek another climate for her failing health. In 1889, the family moved to the panhandle of Texas a few miles from Clarendon. The settlement of "Boydstun" in Donley County was named for her husband, Henry. Another possible child of this couple is Ulys, who was born in 1894. See notes at Johnson Shirley Boydstun. |

Notes for M. EUNICE JAMES: In April 2001, Mary Carr sent a posting she had received from a Tarrant County Texas genealogy mailing list (Internet), from Rose Coerber. Rose was looking for parents of M. E. James who marrie dCharles Boydstun. She noted that J. T. James married Dora Boydston and J. T. was shot about January 1880, and that the story was told that Charles Boydstun hunted down the man who shot J. T. and administered justice. Mary added that in her research she noted a Menard James in Tarrant County who was named in Nick Wisrock's will dated 1878 as "Menard James, lunatic." Nick's widow contested Menard's portion of the estate. Mary located Menard James on the 1900 US Census living in an asylum. He was born in 1849 in Texas, father born in Alabama, mother in Georgia. |

Notes for J. T. JAMES: According to Ernest C. Haws, Dora Alice married J. T. James on Christmast Day 1897. On 25 Jan 1880, one month after the marriage, Mr. James was shot down. (His death date is confirmed). The story continues that the killer was well-known in the area, and left rather hurriedly. At a later day, Mr. Boydstun disguised himself and went to track the culprit down, and returned him to the county where he was eventually hanged. Ernest continues that there was an old photo of a public hanging among his grandfather's effects, and he often wondered if it was the hanging in question. J.T. James is buried at the Cope Cemetery in Johnson County, Texas. He is the son of R. F. & S. J. James. Born 21 Jul, 1859 died 25 Jan 1880. In the same cemetery is the following family: J. P.
