Descendants of Thomas BOYLSTON, Jr.

204. ARMISTEAD WOOD8 BOYDSTUN (BENJAMIN FRANKLIN7, THOMAS6, JAMES5, DAVID4 BOYDSTON, WILLIAM3 BOYLSTON, THOMAS2, THOMAS1) was born 16 Jun 1846 in Tennessee, and died 18 Jan 1889 in Ripley, Lauderdale Co, TN. He married EMMA E. DURHAM 25 Feb 1874 in Lauderdale Co, TN. She was born 15 Mar 1853, and died 28 Nov 1929 in Ripley, Lauderdale Co, TN.

Notes for A
RMISTEAD WOOD BOYDSTUN:
Lauderdale County Enterprise, Ripley, Tennessee
November 20, 1925

***LOCAL AND PERSONAL***

Mr. Tom HARGETT's home near Central was destroyed by fire Wednesday about 5 a.m. It was known as the Wood BOYDSTUN home.

(Chuck Boydstun's note: This could either be the Benjamin Franklin Boydstun / Mary Wood home or the Armstead Wood Boydstun home.)

Since an obituary posted refers to a "Ward Boydstun," I believe Armistead was called Wood Boydstun.

Another Boydstun buried at Grace Cemetery that probably relates to this family is:
GRACE CEMETERY LAUDERDALE COUNTY, TN
STACY, Nellie Boydston 08 April 1864 - 20 Jan 1951

Notes for E
MMA E. DURHAM:
Sharon Snipes wrote in March 2001:

We are researching the Durham lines, among others. I was looking for Emma Durham who married a Boydston...On your Boyston/Boydstun desc. you are listing a Emma Durham married to Armistead Wood Boydstun. born 1847 in TN. His parents: Benjamin Boydstun and Mary Wood of Lauderdale Co.TN. My Durham family also from Lauderdale Co. TN.

Our records show Emma Durham born abt. 1855 (approximate) in Lauderdale Co.TN. Her parents: Bryant Durham and Lucinda Davenport Our records show she died bef. 1948. They had 6 children.

We think our Emma could be the same Emma as you show married to Armistead Boydstun. There were not that many Durhams in Lauderdale Co. and we feel sure this is the same Durham line we are working on. We need more info on Emma, her husband and children. Can you help us or direct us to someone who can?

Charlie Boydstun posts these newspaper articles, which indicates that this couple had children, assuming this is the correct Emma Boydstun:

Lauderdale County Enterprise
Friday June 25, 1926
Gates, Tennessee
Mrs. Emma Boydstun and granddaughter, Margaret Tarrant, of Ripley, are visiting the former’s daughter, Mrs. F. B. Bradford.

Lauderdale County Enterprise
Friday September 24, 1926
Gates, Tennessee
Mrs. Emma Boydstun of Ripley is visiting her daughter, Mrs. F. B. Bradford.

(An obituary for Mrs. T. P. Scott, formerly Nora Boydstun, daughter of Ward Boydstun, gives more children, but father is called "Ward Boydstun." I have no Ward, but this could be misinterpreted "Wood." An article refers to the burning of the Wood Boydstun house, which supports this theory.)

death location from Huggins Funeral Home Records.

  Notes for MALINDA LOUISE HOLLAND:
Malinda Louise Holland's family objected to her marriage to Thomas M. Boydstun; not because they were cousins, but because he was a Northerner. Her father fought for the Confederacy, and her mother was described as being a Southerner "from the tips of her toes to the topmost strands of her auburn hair."

Notes from Malinda's obituary:

Burial is from Christian Church, Dr. Adam K. Adcock, pastor.

  Notes for MINNIE B. BOYDSTUN:
Lana Anderson shows a birth date of 23 Nov 1865, but this doesn't jibe with the cemetery information.
