ARGARET ANNA BOYDSTUN:
Lana Anderson is a descendant of Margaret Ann(a) Boydstun, although it is not clear how, at this time (July 1998).

Joseph L. McCormack speculates that Margaret Boydstun may have been married before and come to Texas to visit where she may have met Joseph A. Tucker. Bartlett Boydstun may have come to Erath County (where he appears on the census) in 1880 to attend the wedding and visit both his daughters.

Notes for A
SA THOMAS BOYDSTUN:
Information for this family comes partially from the obituaries of Asa T. Boydstun and Emily Dawdy Boydstun, as well as those sources mentioned at Benjamin G. Boydstun.

Asa T. Boydstun's tombstone is black granite and in March 1984 was in pieces, scattered on the ground. No small feat, as it is a fairly large stone. However, only the sections were broken apart. No permanent damage seemed to be done to the stone itself.

Notes for E
MILY DAWDY:
Emma Dawdy Boydstun was included in the Memorial & Biographical History of Knox County, Illinois. The article is found on page 327 and states that her 100 acre farm was located on Section 8, Indian Point Township.

Emily Dawdy and A. T. Boydstun were active members of the Christian Church. He was also a member of the AF&AM and a Mason's Lodge in Abingdon, Illinois.

Unmarried, as far as I can determine.

J.B.D. Boydston bought for $526 on 5 Dec 1873 on a note to Wm. Lawrence, a parcel of land in Ellis County, Texas:

History of Central & Western Texas, p. 386

J. B. D. Boydstun was the pioneer farmer of the Big Springs country. He was the first to make a thorough trial of the principles of diversified farming in this part of western Texas, with success.

Boydstun was born in Woodford county, Illinois, and reared on a farm, then living for a few years, about war time, in Warren County, Kentucky, afterwards returning to his native state and living in Knox county until 1870, then moved to Tarrant Co, Texas, and subsequently spent a few years in Dallas, Ellis, and Brown Counties. In 1880, when the extension of the Texas & Pacific Railroad was begun from Weatherford, he got employment from the construction work and followed the line in its progress to western Texas. His family accompanied him, and thus it was that he reached Big Springs on the day that the track was completed and the first train reached this point on June 6, 1881.

At that time, the Big Springs area was cattle range country, and the cattlemen often showed their dislike of the small farmer, but the railroad made produce more valuable freight than cattle, and the railroad gave Boydstun a commission in 1882 to establish an experimental farm near Big Springs where he raised millet and various kinds of grains and also garden vegetables, and began a fruit culture. He tried to prove that, even with little rainfall, the area could produce a variety of crops. He was successful. He raised the first cotton in the area and hauled two bales 69 miles to Sweetwater, where the nearest gin was located.
