He married ISABELLA BROADHURST 06 Mar 1851 in Clay Co, MO; B/231, daughter of JOSEPH BROADHURST and DIANAH FAUBION. She was born 10 Jun 1831 in "Sabel" b. Clay Co, MO, and died 19 Feb 1901 in Clay Co, MO.

John Wesley and his family moved from Tennessee to Clay County, MO in 1832; Isabella's family came to Clay County in the fall of 1829, and she was the first of their children to be born in Missouri. The area where they settled was mostly wilderness. It was at first one of the Barry neighborhoods, then it was called Faubion Chapel neighborhood, and later Linden.

John W. and Isabella were married by J. W.'s grandfather, Jacob Faubion, minister on 6 Mar 1851. On 10 Mar 1851, William and Sylvania bought a piece of land in Clay County which was right on the border of Platte County (Book M, p. 80). Then 18 Jun 1851, William and Sylvania gave to J.W. Faubion the SW 1/4 of Section 15, Twp. 51, Range 33 containing 111 acres (Book N, p. 337). It was on this farm that most of John and Isabella's children were born.

J. W. and Marion Faubion, the sons of William, married sisters. They were listed among those who had taken the Loyalty Oath and gave Bond in the 5 Sep 1862 issue of the Liberty Tribune. They joined Rising Sun Lodge, MO Ancient Order of Free and Accepted Masons at Barry, MO at the same time on 18 May 1865. Their uncle John M. Broadhurst also belonged to this lodge.

On 17 Sep 1868, John W. bought from Joseph and Dianah Broadhurst the W1/2 of the SW1/4 of Section 13, Twp. 51, Range 33 (Book 27, p. 262), 80 acres, for $2,400. This is the land directly across from the Faubion Chapel. John W. sold the land in Section 15 on 14 Nov 1868 (Book 29, p. 452). He owned the land in Section 13 at the time of his death, calling it his "homestead." This is where their last two children and many of their grandchildren were born, and where both J. W. and Isabella died.

When Joseph Broadhurst died and the land had to be sold at auction to settle the estate, J. W. bought the SW 1/4 of NW 1/4 Section 18, Townhip 51, Range 33 for $200 on 22 Sep 1873. This was the 40 acres Joseph had entered 18 Feb 1839 and may have been where Joseph and Dianah lived. On 6 Mar 1884, J. W. bought 40 acres of land next to that parcel for $316 -- N 1/4 of NW 1/4, Section 18, Twp. 51, Range 32 (Book 664, p. 44). It is not known when he sold that 80 acres in Section 18.

John W. Sr. was an active memeber of the Faubion Chapel ME South Church and he and his wife are buried in the cemetery adjoining. John W. Jr. served as executor of his father's estate and lived on his father's farm until the estate was settled. At that time, he switched houses/farms with Lena and Harvey Johnson.

Isabella was still living in the house on the homestead. She became ill and was bedridden. Her grandson, Joseph Wesley Faubion, remembers that as a small child he was sometimes allowed to play on her bed (he was born Oct 1898). Isabella died in February 1901 and is buried in Faubion Cemetery.

From Steve Verden: Uncle Will was a farmer in Clay County, MO when the children were small. After Georgia died, he moved into Kansas City to work. The children went to live with his sister, Lena and her husband, Havvey Johnson. It must have been later that he met and married Mattie Daniels. Sometime after she died, daughter Minnie was living in Boulder, Colorado, and Uncle Will moved out to live iwth her. He worked in a power plant for the University of Colorado.

Georgia died as a result of burns she received in a coal oil stove accident at home.

John was a dependable person and a hard worker. He was over 6' tall and strong. He was appointed overseer of the roads in Clay County, MO for District #20 in 1897. People in those days worked for a given amount of time on the roads to pay some of their taxes, and John supervised the efforts of those in his district that year. He and his father were also involved in making some of the roads in the town of Linden. The payments were in the form of town lots, and the deed to the lots were in John Sr.'s name.

After Ida died of Bright's disease, John arranged with Ida's parents for them to care for the boys while he went to Kansas City to find a job. He moved to town early in 1904 and went to work for the Kansas City Street Railways Company, a streetcar company, in the maintenance and repair department. In later years, he was forman at the streetcar barn.

John second married Fannie Ray and the boys came to live with them in Kansas City.

John was superintendent of Sunday School at Faubion Chapel, and he continued to be involved in the Methodist Church in Kansas City. He was also a Mason, and joined the Rising Sun Lodge in Barry, MO, and maintained his Blue Lodge membership there. He was a member of the drill team for Knights Templar, and was also a Shriner.

He died when he was electricuted while working on a streetcar in 1924. He had been on the way to the Shrine National Convention parade when called to duty. He fell off the Intercity viaduct.

Notes for ILEANA EDNA FAUBION:
"Aunt Lena" was born the same year that her oldest sister was married. No one called her by her first name, and most didn't know her name was not Lena. "Uncle Harv" farmed in Clay County after they were married, and around 1905, they moved to Kansas City, Missouri. In about 1950, Lena sold her home and went to live at the Nettleton Home in Kansas City, where she had a nice apartment. She had a debilitating stroke, and was moved to the infirmary where she lived for several years before she died at age 97.

308. MARION J.⁸ FAUBION (WILLIAM HENRY⁷, PRISCILLA⁶ BOYDSTON, WILLIAM⁵, DAVID⁴, WILLIAM³ BOYLSTON, THOMAS², THOMAS¹) was born 19 Oct 1835, and died 20 Jan 1908 in Clay Co, MO. He married NANCY BROADHURST 25 Oct 1855 in prob Clay Co, MO; by Rev. Jacob Broadhurst, daughter of JOSEPH BROADHURST and DIANAH FAUBION. She was born 26 Feb 1838, and died 16 Aug 1907 in Clay Co, MO.

The "J" in Marion J. Faubion's name may have stood for "Jacob," as the marriage record indicates that Nancy Broadhurst married "Jacob Faubion." He was called "Uncle May" throughout his adult life. He and his brother, John Wesley, Jr., married sisters and were lifelong friends as well as brothers. Both families attended Faubion Chapel ME South Church.

On 3 Feb 1860, William Faubion sold land in Clay County, MO to his son Marion J. (Book T, p. 239). Marion bought more Clay County land on 8 Apr 1868 (Book 29, p. 613). a description of the land was not recorded, but it should have been in Twp. 51, Range 33, since Marion was elected to the District #1 School Board, Twp. 51, Range 33, in 1874.

Apparently Marion was having some financial troubles, and the school board was in a mess in 1875. It was during 1875 that Marion resigned from the school board and his land in Clay County was sold or "lost." John A. wrote on 15 Nov 1875 to his grandfather William and Uncle John that the family had made it safely to Barton County. "Pap" and "Uncle Bill" were out looking for a farm for them to rent. They apparently found one, as Ed Pickett wrote to Uncle May in Barton County on 19 Dec 1885, telling him that Isabella, Nancy's sister, had fallen 10 days prior while crossing a bridge to Kansas. She had "mashed her thy terrible breaking the bone," and she was not expected to recover (note: she recovered and lived at least 15 more years).

Notes of Steve Verden: Middle name may have been "Alexander," but no proof of this. He lived in Barton County, MO until sometime between Dec. 1882 and Dec. 1886, when he and Annie moved back to Liberty. He was a carpenter as a young man, and helped to build the First Christian Church in Liberty, Mo. They later owned and operated the Metropolitan Hotel in Liberty.

Buried near Thomas W. R. and Mary (Thomas) Boydston at Faubion Cemetery is a M. Adelia Boydston (1884-1966). Ruth Walton comments that this could be a daughter born at the time of the mother's death.
