She was past president of Spofford Receiving Home for Children's managing board, and a member of the Women's City Club.

Notes of Steve Verden: At age 16, W. J. went to Parkville, MO as the station agent for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railway Co., and later went into the mercantile business in Parkville for a short time. He moved to Kansas City and formed a partnership wtih John P. Tillhoff in the real estate and insurance business.

W. J. served 2 terms as lower house alderman for the 8th ward and also served a short term as Jackson County Sheriff. He was an active Republican. He was president of the Kansas City Loan and Investment Company, and a member of the board of directors of Traders' National Bank of Kansas City and Produce Exchange Bank. He was active on the board of stewards of Central Methodist Episcopal Church, and for many years served as director of Helping Hands Institute.

William J. Parvin served as a Methodist minister in various communities for 48 years before retiring to the Prather Hill farm.

In September 2000, Barbara Perkins (lived in Arizona -- beatcal@azstarnet.com) wrote identifying herself as a granddaughter of Rev. William & Lulu Prather Parvin and great granddaughter of James Higgins and Emma Broadhurst Prather.

She said, "..I well remember my Grandmother's burial (at Faubion Cemetery) on a very, very cold day in 1950. I have since been back and walked the cemetery as you do because I have one famiy of close relatives -- who are actually my only family now -- Dr. and Mrs. Robert Hodge who live on Prather Hill on 39th Street."

Notes of Steve Verden: Alta was age 10 when she became pianist at Faubion Chapel in Linden (Gladstone), MO. She gave piano concerts throughout northwest Missouri. She was a member of two garden clubs and an active Republican. For 10 years, she sold real estate for Emmett Reid Agency in Kansas City.

  Notes for HOLLAND H. BOYDSTON:
In Steve Verden's notes, he states that Holland H. Boydston is listed in "Faubion and Allied Families" as a child of Thomas Henry Boydston, son of James Nichols Boydston, and that the book shows Holland born before the couple was married.

Steve notes that my files do not show this, but show a Harvey, which is too young to be Holland.

I am nearly certain that the information on this family group and Holland being a son of James Nichols Boydston (rather than Thomas Henry Boydston) came from Ruth Walton of Salem, OR, but do not know her sources of information.

Oscar was a real estate salesman and a veteran of the Spanish-American War. He served in Cuba with the 3rd Missouri Volunteers. He and his wife lived on Prather Hill in Clay Co, MO

Notes of Steve Verden:

Jacob Thomas was a student and 15 years old when the Civil War began. He quit school and joined his father as a Confederate soldier. He was carrying messages from one squad to antoher when he was cut off by Union forces and forced to feel Missouri. It took him four months to reach Fort Lyon on the Arkansas River. He then returned home and joined the "Home Guard."

Jacob Thomas cut wood for railroad ties for the Missouri Valley Railroad for two years, and also lumber for the Burlington Bridge in Kansas City. He was then able to go into the mercantile business. He and partner, Henry Wheeler established Wheeler & Broadhurst in Pomeroy, Kansas. In 1873, he moved to Norborne in Carroll County, MO, where he opened another store, which he operated for 30 years.

He seems also to have been a freighter. He had an ox wagon which hauled freight from St. Joseph, MO to Denver, Colorado for some time. In about 1900, he moved to Kansas City and went into the real estate business, and retired about 1921. He was a member of the Methodist church, and a member of the Egypt Lodge #360 I.O.O.F.

Notes for LUCY S. BELT:
Lucy traveled from Kentucky by steamboat with her parents when she was about 7 years old. They settled in Clay County, MO, and later moved to Carroll County, MO. It was apparently in Carroll County that she married Jacob Thomas Broadhurst. She was a member of the Christian Church.

Steve Verden's notes:

James A. Broadhurst was among the men of Platte County, MO who were wounded at the Battle of Springfield during the Civil War while serving the Confederacy. (Genealogical Notes from the Liberty Tribune, Vol. II, p. 40, issue 23 Aug 1861).

(He apparently served as executor of Rev. Jacob Broadhurst's estate, see Deed Book U, p. 298-299, April 1868). In July 1873, the Probate Court of Platte County, MO asked for a "final disposition" of the estate. James at that time was "living in Kansas."
