The Family of Florence Coryell Beasley

The mother of Florence Coryell was Carrie Warren.  Little is known about her family linage.  Much research is to be done in this area.

The father of Florence Coryell was Edwin Coryell.  Extensive research has been done by several researchers on this line.  Good information is available and is one of the most interesting of the Beasley lines.  Special thanks should go to Dallas Lee Coryell for the information compiled in his binder “The Coryells”.  Certainly, our own family researcher Sandy Blair was instrumental in finding this information and more for us.

Edwin was the son of Cornelius Coryell.  Cornelius was a descendant of the Coryells from Piscataway, N.J.  They were descendants of Huguenots.  Edwin’s family had moved into the “finger lakes” area of the state of New York.  It was there where he was eventually to be mustered into the 126th NY Volunteers to fight in the Civil War.  His unit was captured at Harper’s Ferry and was chastised at that time for their surrender.  After being released by the Confederates, his unit was to reenter the war and serve at Gettysburg, where they were acclaimed for their bravery and fight.

For reasons unknown, he later was to move to  Kansas where he remarried, and thus was to father Florence.   We have considerable documentation on him and would welcome forums on his life or the Coryells.
