The Bellis Family of Lancashire and Whitford, Flintshire Updated February 27, 2006
About Our Family Research
The Bellis name originated in North Wales, and comes from Ab Elys ie. "son of Elys" and my family research, up to now, shows my family originating from Whitford in Flintshire, North Wales and migrating through Manchester and Staffordshire to Lancashire and back to Manchester. My Bellis' in lived in the borough of Whitford for at least a couple of hundred years at 'Tre Llan' and 'Edonowen' which was land owned by the earl of Denbigh. There still exists a farm there call 'Tre Edonowen'. Then at the turn of the 19th Century they left and my direct descendant John Bellis (a Tailor) moved to Manchester. The family then moved to Hanley near Stoke-on-Trent, then to Widnes where they settled for many years befor my father, Donald Bellis, moved back to Manchester. I still have living relatives in Widnes.
