There he met the handsome Miss Susan Norment who, with her brothers and sisters had also moved there from Virginia. Grandmother was as goodlooking as Grandfather was homely. She had dark eyes and wavy black hair parted and drawn down over her ears. As for her figure - well, in those days it was believed one had the figure the Lord gave you and it was not your responsibility. She was one of a large family and all except two brothers moved from Virginia to Arkansas. One brother, Samuel Norment, was quite successful. I think he was president of the First National Bank of Washington, D.C. I know his son, Clarence, was later president of that bank. A sister, Jane, married a Mr. McKenzie, whose daughters I knew. One daughter taught at the School for the Deaf in Little Rock. The other daughter, Ina, married Jeff Davis, afterwards governor of Arkansas. He was the Huey Long of Arkansas. Another sister of Grandmother's was the second wife of the father of Senator James K. Jones who was always our good friend. There were also two daughters of Mrs. Jones, Lucy and Jennie (Mrs. Grow). When Jennie died she left money for a memorial window to herself and husband and asked me to see that it was placed in Winfield Church. No pictorial windows were permitted in the church at that time, so I had placed two panel windows which are on either side of the large window my husband gave in honor of my grandfather. =end= [Does anyone have any idea what she meant by "the figure the Lord gave you"?]
