NW Washington DC 10001-4225 Box 40 #5646 The Last Will and Testament of Ulysses Ward of Washington City in the District of Columbia: Item 1: I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Susan Virlinda Ward, in lieu of her one third of my estate, real and personal, the whole of my estate (after the payment of my debts, and the bequests hereinafter mentioned) for and during her natural life to her own proper use. Item 2: I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter, Miranda V. Feinour, wife of Dr. Thomas Feinour, an annuity of seven hundred dollars during her natural life, which is to be paid her quarter yearly, by my executors hereinafter named. Item 3: I give and bequeath unto my beloved son, James Thomas Ward (after the death of my beloved wife Susan Virlinda Ward) his heirs and assigns forever, one fifth part of my estate, which may remain at the death of my wife aforesaid. Item 4: I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Mary Ellen Norment, wife of Samuel Norment, one fifth part of my estate which may remain at the death of my wife aforesaid to the proper use of her, her heirs and assigns forever. Item 5: I give and bequeath unto my beloved son, John Beverly Ward, one fifth part of my estate which may remain at the death of my wife aforesaid, to the proper use of him, his heirs and assigns forever. Item 6: I give and bequeath unto my beloved son, James Thomas Ward, in Trust for Horace Beall Ward, Edith Ward, and Elmer Ward, the children of my departed son Ulysses Beall Ward, one fifth part of my estate after the death of my wife aforesaid, which is to be paid or distributed to them or the survivor of them, their heirs and assigns, when they arrive at Maturity, charging them with five hundred dollars per year from the death of their Father which took place on the 28th June 1864, with average interest, this sum being spent on their support and education. Item 7: I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Margaret Anna Norment, wife of Richard B. Norment, one fifth part of my estate after the death of my wife as aforesaid for the proper use of her, her heirs and assigns forever, she paying to the estate $4454 owing by her husband as follows: note for $100 date September 2nd 1865, note for $2525 dated May 7th, 1866, note for $1519 dated August 17, 1866 and open account balance October 1, 1867 $310. Item 8: I give and bequeath unto Cassandra Cissel The ground rent on Lots 28 & 29 in Reservation C, and Lots 2, 3 & 15 in Square 535 in the City of Washington under lease to Samuel Norment for five hundred dollars per year payable quarter yearly for and during her natural life. And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my two sons James Thomas Ward and John Beverly Ward and Samuel Norment and the survivors or survivor of them to be the Executors or Executor of this my last will and Testament with power to sell and convey and reinvest. Revoking all other wills by me heretofore made, I declare this to be my Last Will and Testament. Wesley Boteler and Elisha Lazenby the subscribing witnesses to the aforegoing last will and testament of Ulysses Ward late of Washington County aforesaid, deceased, and severally made oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God that they did see the Testator therein named, sign and seal said will; that he published, pronounced and declared the same to be his last will and testament; that at the time of so doing he was, to the best of their apprehension, of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, and capable of executing a valid deed or contract; and that their names as witnesses to the aforesaid will were signed in the presence and at the request of the Testator and in the presence of each other.
