[The following is a clipping pasted in the bible] BIOGRAPHICAL For the Religious Herald Departed this life on the 10th of December, 1845, in the county of Caroline, at the residence of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. F. O. Harris, Mrs. LUCY HARRIS, in the 79th year of her age. The subject of this obituary was baptized by Elder A. Broaddus about 37 years ago, and became a member of Burruss' Baptist church, of which church she continued a consistent, pious member until one or two years before her death, when by letter she joined the Concord church. There were seasons during the life of our departed sister, when she labored under considerable depression of spirits. Then, she seemed much to question her acceptance with God. At such times, she was much engaged in prayer, reading the scriptures, and religious conversation; often asking her friends to pray for her. As a church member, while she was able to go, she was a regular attendant, and would often when unable to go, express great anxiety to meet with her brethren. She was fondly attached to her pastor, and contributed liberally to his support, as well as to the various benevolent institutions of the day. As a parent, and grand parent, she was kind and affectionate; as a mistress, she was humane, and as a neighbor, well prepared to sympathise with the distressed, and so far as she had the ability, to alleviate their sufferings. During her last illness, her conflict was severe. Apart from her bodily sufferings, which were somewhat protracted and severe, her mental struggles were quite distressing. She was now much engaged in prayer, and often asked her pious attendants to pray for her that all her sins might be forgiven. But before she died those gloomy doubts were all removed, and she was enabled to rejoice in the prospect of a blessed immortality. Thus died in the triumphs of faith, one whose life for many years gave ample testimony of her acceptance with God, leaving behind her several children, and a numerous train of grand-children to mourn over their irreparable loss. But let them not weep of those who have no hope. H.
