Smith County Marriage records show J. Ellard and A.M. Bell were married 23 Dec 1888 by D.J. Bedell, an ordained minister of the gospel. Jeptha was 50 in 1888 and had lost Lydia in Mar and his youngest child was not quite four, so it seems logical that Jeptha married again.

  Notes for JAMES MONROE ELLARD:

Roster of the Confederate Soliders of Georgia; 1861-1865

James Monroe Ellerd served in the Confederate States Army 1861-1964, Company C, 11th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Private. July 3, 1861, wounded in left arm necessitating amputation above the elbow. This was done at the 2nd Manassas, VA, August 30, 1862. He was captured at Tilton, GA, 14 May 1864. He was paroled at Camp Marton, IN, and forwarded to Point Lookout, MD, 10 March 1965. He was then received at James River, VA, for exchange, 23 March 1865. He is described as 5'7" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes and light hair.

Conflicting information on where he is burried:

Murry County Heritage Book
Copyright 1987

Shows James Monroe Ellard buried in the Confederate Cemetery at LaGrange, GA. Row 4 18th Grave from East. Grave Marker: Pvt James M. Ellerd, Co K., 68th Tenn CSA. However, after personnaly checking this out 21 May 1995, this can not be true for the Grave is plainly marked J. M. Feller, Co. K., 68th Tenn, CSA. So the grave at Leatherwood Baptist Church Cemetery in Banks County must be the correct grave.
