Descendants of John Daniel

Generation No. 2

2. CATHERINE5 DANIEL (JOHN4, JAMES3, JAMES2, JAMES1) was born 1764 in Essex Co., VA, and died Bef. October 06, 1857 in Laurens Co., SC. She married WILLIAM SOUTH October 13, 1785 in Bedford Co., VA. He was born Abt. 1760 in VA, and died in Laurens Co., SC.

Notes for C
ATHERINE DANIEL:
Mrs. Christine South Gee of South Carolina is a descendant of William and Catherine. Mrs. Gee has written a large history of the Daniels of South Carolina. I believe she has passed away in recent years. (2002).

Child of C
ATHERINE DANIEL and WILLIAM SOUTH is:
6. i.   DANIEL6 SOUTH, b. 1786.

3. HARRISON5 DANIEL (JOHN4, JAMES3, JAMES2, JAMES1) was born 1765 in Essex or Bedford Co., VA, and died January 29, 1859 in Laurens Co., SC. He married SUSANNAH WRIGHT 1792 in Laurens Co., SC, daughter of GEORGE WRIGHT and SARAH COOK. She was born Abt. 1774, and died Bef. 1850 in Laurens Co., SC.

Notes for H
ARRISON DANIEL:
From 1800 Laurens Co. census, it shows that John Daniel, Sr. and wife Sarah could have been living with son Harrison. It shows 1 male 26-45 (Harrison) and 1 male over 45 (John Sr.), 1 female 16-26 (Susannah) and 1 female over 45 (Sarah). Since both women have the same surname, it is probable they were related. The 1850 census of Laurens Co. shows him, age 85, with Sarah, age 60. Sarah is possibly his daughter, but could be a second wife.

He bought much land in Laurens Co. and is said to have been buried on "the old Wright place" near Ware Shoals. The administrators of his estate included James W. Daniel, who declares himself to be a son of Harrison, James M. Clardy and Abram Machen. They gave bond on January 29, 1859. Heirs listed were James and Elizabeth Henderson, Sarah Daniel, Drusilla Sadler, Joseph Daniel, M.D. Cook, children of William Daniel, viz, Drusilla Daniel, Sarah S. Daniel and J.H. Daniel. The bill of sale mentions Jesse H. Daniel, John M. Daniel, George M. Sadler, Sarah, James C. Raisor, James W. Clardy, James W. Daniel, and Daniel Gauldard.

  Notes for JOSEPH LUTHER DANIEL:
The Joseph Daniel who appears in the 1830 census of Laurens Co. is probably this man. His household consists of these: 1 male under 5, 1 male 5-10, 1 male 10-15, and 1 male 20-30; 1 female 20-30. Gee/Cravens say he moved to Texas.

4. JOHN B.5 DANIEL (JOHN4, JAMES3, JAMES2, JAMES1) was born 1769 in Bedford Co., VA, and died Aft. 1850 in Jefferson Co., AL. He married MARY PUGH 1795 in Laurens Co., SC, daughter of //PUGH and MARY PUGH. She was born Abt. 1771 in SC or VA, and died Aft. 1840 in Jefferson Co., AL.

Notes for J
OHN B. DANIEL:
John B. Daniel, age 81, was living in the household of John Reed and family, Jefferson Co., AL 1850 census. This family also included some children surnamed Ferguson, children of his daughter Christina, who married Martin Ferguson. Here is a list of the household in 1850: John Reid or Reed, 51, b. SC; Nancy, 45, b. SC (his daughter, who was married first to James Dyer); Thomas, 15, b. SC; Elvira J., 10, b. SC; Christina, 7, Martha 3, Jasper N. Ferguson, 15; Sarah J. Ferguson, 15; Martha A. Ferguson, 13; and Christina M. Ferguson, 10.

The 1790 census of Laurens Co., SC shows a John Daniel with 1 male and 1 female over 17, probably John B. and wife Mary. In 1830 census of Jefferson Co., AL household had males: 1 10-15, 1 15-20, 1 60-70; females 1 5-10, 2 15-20, 2 20-30, and 1 50-60. In 1840 males 1 5-10, 1 70-80; females 1 -5, 2 5-10, 1 20-30-, 1 30-40, 1 60-70. This indicates that this is the family of John B. and Mary Daniel.

It was probably about the time of the death of his father in 1819 in Laurens Co. that the family moved to Jefferson Co., AL. Most of his children married there, the earliest, John M., in 1820. Robert and Elizabeth married in other places.

Notes for M
ARY PUGH:
British parish records indicate that the Pugh family was most numerous in Shropshire, near the border with Wales. Large numbers of Pughs were members of Bush River Monthly Meeting of Quakers in Newberry Co., SC. In 1822, the meeting was disbanded when many members requested certificates so they could transfer to Ohio. It is not known whether or not this family were Quakers.

A Mary Daniel received a patent for 80+ acres of land in Jefferson Co., AL on August 28, 1838. Not verified as to who this was.

OHN DANIEL and MARY PUGH are:
12. i.   ROBERT6 DANIEL, b. 1796, Laurens Co., SC; d. Aft. 1850, Franklin Co., AL.

  Notes for ELIZABETH DANIEL:
Probably died in Monroe Co., GA. before 1850.

  Notes for JAMES REDDING:
James Redding received a patent for 40+ acres of land in Shelby/Jefferson Cos. AL, on October 14, 1834. No one by this name is in the 1840 or 1850 census of either county. Possible relationship is a
James P. Redding who lived in Monroe Co., GA in 1830. Other Reddings nearby. James was in the 40-50 age range with a female in the 20-30 range and a younger female in the 15-20 range. If this is our Redding family, Elizabeth had died before 1850. Other Reddings nearby were James M., 26, b. GA, his wife Frances C. 19, b. GA, child William Z. b. January 1850. Also in the household were William A. Redding, 28, and Daniel S. Redding, age 18.
