Notes for C
HRISTOPHER WHITMIRE COX:
A Christopher Cox is listed in the 1840 Alabama census index in Jackson Co. There is also one in Tuscaloosa Co. He is in Yalobusha Co., MS in 1850, as were Charles, George, Henry, P.H., and Reuben Cox. C.W. Cox bought 280.3 acres of land in Smith Co. TX on May 21, 1856 from W.D. Johnson. He also bought land in Upshur Co. on Jan. 22, 1872 and refiled on June 13, 1879. He bought it from Thomas J. Davis and his wife, Manurva. On the waters of Big Sandy, 200 acres. He appears on the 1866 Wood Co. tax rolls with 160 acres, abstract # 50, bought from E.H. Page.

A Christopher Cox, head of household, lives in Edgefield Co., SC in 1820. Household consists of 1 male under 5, one male 16-45; 2 females under 5, on female 26-45. This could be the family of C.W. rather than Zachariah, but not conclusive.

1850 Yalobusha Co., MS census says he was born in Georgia. It gives his age as 33. Apparently his family lived in Georgia for some time, but his birthplace was certified as Pickens District, SC, as per military records below. The family was living in Wood Co. TX in 1860. Hardy Cox, laborer, age 28, b. GA was living in the household. Possibly a brother.

Copied from NARA microfilm: C.W. Cox enlisted in 22nd Regiment, Co. E, Hubbard's Texas Infantry at Quitman on March 4, 1862 for a period of 12 months. Papers certified that he was born in Pickens District, SC, was 5 feet 10 inches tall, fair, blue eyes, sandy hair. He was discharged six months later because of his age which was 46. He held the rank of corporal. Collected pay of $56.18 on October 22, 1862 at time of his discharge.

Notes for M
ARTHA DANIEL:
John F. Daniel says she was Martha J. Daniel. In 1850 the Bennetts lived next door to William J. and Mary Daniel in Yalobusha Co., MS. I tentatively add her as a child of John M. and Elizabeth.

Notes for W
ILLIS J. BENNETT:
This family lived next door to William Daniel family in Yalobusha Co., MS 1850. These Bennetts are possibily the parents and siblings of Cornelia who married Westley Daniel.

It is possible that Willis Bennett had a second wife in Texas. Martha may have died. The 1880 census of Upshur County, TX shows W.J. Bennett, age 57, b. AL, wife Amanda J., age 45, b. GA, Tabitha, 23, b. MS, Francis M. (f), 25, b. AL, Sophronia M., 24, b. AL, and Mary J., 18, b. AL. Also in the house was a Thomas A. (daughter?) Phillips, 11, b. AR. This shows the possibility that Amanda J. was married to a man named Phillips in Arkansas before she married W.J. Bennett.

ARTHA DANIEL and WILLIS BENNETT are:
  i.   NICHOLAS8 BENNETT, b. 1845, Yalobusha Co., MS.
