Notes for LILLIAN MAE BRESTLE: At time of death was living with her son W. B. "Pete" Boggs at 2001 Osage Ave. in Bartlesville, OK. There is no W. B. as her son, but there is a W. I.\\ Small in physical stature, but large in independence and decisive in personality. Because of the nature of Edwin's work, she was head of household most of the time and was in fact the dominant force in the rearing of the four sons. Her son James tells stories of the wild period in Bartlesville, Indian territory, when she kept a loaded pistol in her sewing basket. He told of one night, when he was a small chid and they were living at 601 Dewey, Bartlesville, that some intruder entered the house through the dining room window. While the intruder was still making his entry, she quietly put down her sewing, picked up the pistol and fired at him, at which time he promptly made his exit. She then placed the pistol back in her basket and resumed sewing. She was an excellent cook and set an elegant table. Many of her recipes are in use by her descendents. (1922) She was an active member and participated in functions sponsored by the First Christian Church of Bartlesville, OK. |
