I'm so glad that I was able to find those Meady deeds, especially the one
with Martha! I was wondering why a mother and son would sell land together,
but you're right, it was most likely Meady's wife Martha, and that's
exciting. Perhaps a look at the Court Minutes for that time period would give
a definative answer. Also, that church that was built on Meady's acre of land
might have some clues.

880 William Alexander entry dated 10 July 1762 700 acres in Edgecombe
Co, joining Alexander's own Line, James Boseman, and Miles Scarbroug. /s/
Wm. Alexander. Wit: James Hall

1905 Miles Scarbrough warrant dated 2 Jan 1762 to William Haywood to
survey 700 acres in Edgcombe County on the North Side of Tyancoca, joining
John Rawls and James Boazman. /s/ Jams Hall. Back of document reads: "455
a(cres) Granted 1 Aug 1762"

OR: refers to original records, grants and plats, found at NC State Archives
in Raleigh which have been conflated with the paptent book entries.

/s/: refers to the signature, or mark, of the grantee as it appears on the
original grant.

SCC: stands for sworn chain carrier, and refers to the names, as listed on
the original plat, of those who helped the surveyor.

19, 1760, for 2 pds. lawful money of Great Britain a tract of 100 acres on
the north bank of Town Creek at the mouth of Tyancokey Swamp adjoining James
Boozman and the road, it being part of a tract granted to Joseph Howell by
the Lords Proprietors on March 25, 1749. Wit: William Maund, Augustan (X)
Hargrave.

DB 1-53 William Ruglis of Edgecombe Co, planter, to Aquilla Sugg of same,
merchant and planter, Nov. 14, 1761, for 15 pds. a tract of 100 acres whereon
said Ruglis then lived on Cheek's Mill Creek, Bearskin Swash, and Indian
Creek adjoining Richard Sessoms and Thomas Spell, it being a tract purchased
from James Bozeman. Wit: Benja. Richardson, Arthur Richardson, Joseph
Burkett.

DB C-186 David (D) Mote of Edgecombe Co. to James Boseman of same, Feb.
21, 1764, for 20 pds Proc. money a tract of 50 acres on the north side of
Town Creek adjoining said Boseman and the road, it being part of a tract of
land granted from Howell to Mote. Wit: James (X) Hall, Nicholas Sessums.

DB D-67 John (X) Dunagen of Edgecombe Co, planter, to Francis Lodge of
same, March 6, 1767, for 1 pd, 10 shillings lawful money of N.C. a tract of
97 acres on the west bank of Tyancoca Swamp. Wit: John (X) Dunn, James (B)
Boazman.

DB D-247 David (D) Mote of Edgecombe Co, planter, to Aquila Sugg of same,
planter, Aug. 27, 1770, for 15 pds. Virginia money a tract of 50 acres on the
north bank of Town Creek at the mouth of Tiankokey Swamp adjoining James
Boazman and the road. Wit: Nicholas Sessums, John Procter, James Lane.

DB D-349 John (X) Harrod and wife, Sarah (X) Harrod, of Edgecombe Co. to
Mary Morrel of Hyde Co, N.C., Oct. 6, 1770, for 50 pds. Proc. money a tract
of 150 acres on the north bank of Town Creek adjoining Solomon Nettle and
Henry Tanton, it being part of a larger tract granted to Solomon Nettle by
deed bearing date Oct. 26, 1754 and conveyed by said Nettle to said Harrod.

DB E-53 State of N.C. grant No. 65 to Henry Hart by Gov. Rd. Caswell, July
1, 1779, a tract of 528 acres on Clary's Branch adjoining Alexander, James
Boozman, Miles Scarborough, William Scarborough, Senr., John Rowls, and
Maund.

DB E-151 Henry Hart of Edgecombe Co. to Miles Scarborough, May 29, 1782, for
250 pds. current money a tract of 283 acres on the south side of Clary's
Branch adjoining said Hart, Alexander, James Boozman, Mitchell Watkins, and
