Christiana Lavasta Slater (1853-1943 Prentiss, MS) married to John Fulton
Baker (1836-1927 Prentiss, MS). Christiana Slater was the daughter of Warren
Slater (1817-1900) and Mary Bozeman (1834-1909). Mary Bozeman was said to be
1/2 Chickasaw. Her parents were John and Elizabeth Bozeman. Warren Slater
was the son of Thomas Beal Slater (1790 in GA or MD) and Hester Warren
(1799-1870). Thomas Beal Slater was the son of James Slater (1755 in Ireland
and died May 22, 1804) and Charity Beal? (1757 in Sylvania, GA).
Any information would be appreciated. Sharron Royalty>>

Hi Sharon:
I have made a quick search of my Bozeman records, and the best candidate that
I have found so far for your Mary Bozeman’s father, John, whom I am assuming
was born about 1810 or before, was John Bozeman, Jr, of Marion Co, MS. He
was born about 1800 in GA, and his wife was named Elizabeth (born 1810 in
AL). His father appears to have been John Bozeman, born about 1765 in SC
according to the 1850 census. The only information that I have readily at
hand on the children of John Bozeman, Jr, and wife Elizabeth is that they had
a son, Stephen Bozeman, born in 1831. Do you happen to know if Mary Bozeman
Slater had a brother named Stephen?
If this is the right family and if Mary Bozeman had Indian ancestry, then I
am guessing that it would have come through the wife, Elizabeth, of John
Bozeman, Jr. There are others on the list who will have more information on
this family, I believe, so you will probably be hearing from them as well.
Good luck in your research, Ron Bullock
