MEMORIES

I’d like to turn the clock back

to a time not long ago,

but wait...I guess it has been

several lifetimes or so.

Twas back before the lifetime

when my children called me dad.

Twas back before lifes worried ways

turned joy into sad.

Twas in an age when life was free,

and I worried not about

inflation, taxes, or what should be or

what should not.

If I could I’d live once more

at least for a moment or two,

Those days when life was mom and dad and,

"can I please go too."

I’d like to ride again with you

down those furrows that you plowed.

You’d ride the seat, I’d find a place,

boy was I proud.

I’d like to live again that time

when you were tall and I was not,

when you had the answer to everything,

and my questions would not stop.

You had a way about you dad,

that took our worries away.

You gave us all the love you had,

just as you still do today.

Yes, I know my wishing won’t bring back

those times ago,

but yet, I still keep wishing that

we could make it so.

But yet what are these memories

if not real as they can be.

I think I hear that tractor now,

and who’s that boy beside his dad...

why, I think it’s me.

The memories you’ve given me

are worthy of recall,

for they’re the best times of my life.

They’re the best of them all.

Now I’m in that lifetime

when my children call me dad,

and this little rhyme of mine

hasn’t turned out too bad.

But dad, I want to give mine

the memories like you’ve given me.

And if I just wish back in time,

the answer’s there to see.

Just give them love, and give them strength,

and be their light to lead them through

and someday they may just turn out

the way I want them to.

Thanks for the memories.......

I’m proud to call you dad.
