On January 8, 1828, a General Convention favorable to the election of Gen. Andrew Jackson as president and John C. Calhoun as vice president of the United States met at Harrisburg. The Convention appointed a Committee of Correspondence for Lycoming County. The Committee of Correspondence for Lycoming County met in Williamsport on February 6, 1828, to appoint Committees of Vigilance in several townships. Hepburn Township: George Weisel, James Thompson, Ferdinand Scheel, James McClean, Peter Wheeland.

Editorial announcement. Citizens of Hepburn Townships who are in favor of internal improvements met 26 Feb 1828 at the home of George Weisel. George was appointed chair. Jacob Welper and Ferdinand Scheel were appointed secretaries. The group voted to support the legislation to authorize extending the canal system from Northumberland to Bald Eagle.
