Brogdons of the U.S.

Updated December 13, 2003

About Our Family Research

We are searching for Brogdon lines in the U.S. We are including those lines with the "Brogden" spelling. We believe our family migrated to America in the early 1700s or even slightly before. Brogdons and Brogdens are known to have settled in the Carolinas, Maryland, and later the other Southern states.

Strongest concentrations we have found were in Bertie, Granville, and Sumter counties, South Carolina and Butler and Morgan counties, Alabama. There are also large concentrations in Gwinnett Co., Georgia. Later groups are known to have moved to Young Co. and later Brazos Co., Texas. There surely are many more we have not discovered.

In addition to searching for our immigrants, we are also open to hearing from Brogdons and Brogdens around the world, as we appear to be all one huge family.

Here are some Brogdon/en named things we have discovered on our way:
Brogden, West Riding, Yorkshire (now Lancaster)
Brogden Lane, Barnoldswick, West Riding, Yorkshire (Lancaster)
Brogden, North Carolina
Brogdon, South Carolina
Brogden Street, Bryan, Texas (reverted name spelling)
Brogden Road, Hedwig, Texas (reverted name spelling)
Brogdon Hall, Southwest Texas State University, San Marcos, Texas
Brogdon Cemetery, Grayson Co., Texas
Nelson Brogdon Boulevard, Sugar Hill, Georgia

Brogdon series: These are said to be "very deep, well drained soils that formed in loamy marine sediments." They are located in Sumter Co., South Carolina.
