Donald P. Gority

Mr. Gority, 67, of 511 2nd St. died at 6:35 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, 1982, in Altoona VA Medical Center, after an extended illness.
Mr. Gority had been a driver for Yellow Cab.
He was born Feb. 11, 1914, in Altoona, the son of James A. and Daisy L. (Holbert) Gority, and April 14, 1959, Ebendburg, married Gertrude J. Mellott.
Surviving are his wife and eight children: Donald Lee, stationed with the Army in Germany; Robert D., at home; Stanley in Virginia, and Donald L. Richard, Martha, Dessie and Barbara.
Also surviving are six brothers and sisters: Mrs. Kay Fry and Mrs. Virginia Novesell of Altoona, Mrs. Martha Landis of Hollidaysburg, Mrs. Betty Stillings of Fowler, Ohio, Francis of Harrison, Ga., and James of Youngstown, Ohio.
Mr. Gority attended the Berean Baptist Church. He was an Army Veteran.
Interment was made today in Bellwood.

Obit.

A native of Altoona residing at 5503 Tramore Road, Baltimore, died Monday in the Maryland General Hospital, Baltimore. She was born on Dec. 12, 1913, a daughter of John and Frances (Reese) Stambaugh. Surviving are two sons, David L. and John H. of Baltimore; two grandchildren, her father and a sister, Mrs. Phyllis Butler of Fort Myers, Fla. Mrs. Rffensparger was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Baltimore, and a registered nurse. Interment will be made in Altoona.

Burried at Rose Hill Cemetery, Altoona, Pa. - Sec. Q, Lot. 60-62.

RAFFENSPARGER-A graveside serices for Mrs. Laura L. Raffensparger, Altoona native, will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Alfred A. Ambrose. Arrangements by the John P. Lafferty Funeral Home.

ERALD EUGENE MANN:
Dayton Soldier Reported Dead in Guadalcanal

Mrs. Betty Spohr Mann, 1222 Springfield St., received a telegram from the war department stating that her husband, Pvt. Gerry Mann, 22, infantry, died Oct. 27 on Guadalcanal. Details of the casualty have not yet been forwarded.

Three letters from Pvt. Mann, the latest of which was dated Oct. 22, were received Saturday by Mrs. Mann.

A picture of Mrs. Mann and their infant son, Carl, who was born after his father departed for overseas duty, was taken by a Dayton Daily News photographer and sent to the father in the South Pacific war zone. The picture was received by Pvt. Mann, who showed the pleasure it gave him by mentioning the picture in every letter he wrote home after receiving it , according to Mrs. Mann's mother, Mrs. Carl Spohr. The picture appeared in The News July 25. The baby was four months old on the day of his father's death.

Pvt. Mann entered the service Dec. 18, 1942, and went overseas in May, 1943. He was a member of the Otterbein U.B. Church where memorial servivces will be held Nov. 14 at 4 p.m.

Surviving besides the widow and son, are the mother, Mrs. Maude Mann, 1503 Richard St.; three brothers in the army, Sgt. Charles Mann, stationed in North Africa, Pfc. Howard Mann, Brooklyn army base terminal, N.Y., and Corp. Robert Mann, Camp Gordon, Ga. three brothers at home, Walter Stanley and Lewis; five sisters Mrs. William Woolis of Altoona, Pa., Mrs. Harld Bock of Akron, Mrs. Paul Stemmler of Dayton, and Shirley and Doris at home, and one aunt, Mrs. R.E. Watkins of Dayton.

Gerald Mann Listed Dead

Pvt. Gerald Mann,22, died Oct. 27 on Guadalcanal where he was serving with the Signal Corps, his wife, Mrs. Betty Spohr Mann, was informed Saturday in a telegram from the War department. The wire was delivered just before the postman brought Mrs. Mann three letters from her husband.

The telegram gave no details of the soldier's death, and Mrs. Mann said that the letters she received Saturday, one of which was dated Oct. 25, did not mention illness. Mann's mother, Mrs. Maude Mann, 1503 Richard Street, received a letter from him Monday.

A four-month-old son, Carl, whom Private Mann had never seen, also survives. Private Mann was sent overseas in May. He attended Roosevelt high school and worked for the Focke Packing company before his induction Dec. 18, 1942. He was a member of Otterbein United Brethren church, where memorial services will be held at 4 p.m., Nov. 14.

Also surviving are six brothers, Sgt. Charles Mann in North Africa; Pfc. Howard Mann, Brooklyn Army base terminal; Corp. Robert Mann, Camp Gordon, Ga; Walter, Stanley and Lewis Mann, all at home; five sisters, Mrs. William Wolis, Altoona, Pa.; Mrs. Harold Bock, Akron; Mrs. Paul Stemmler, Dayton and Shirley and Doris Mann, at home, and an aunt, Mrs. R.
