He married (1) RUTH ELEANOR RAFFENSPARGER May 29, 1941, daughter of JOHN RAFFENSPARGER and BESSIE RAMEY. She was born February 12, 1917 in 711 East Walton Ave. Altoona,Pa. He married (2) GERTRUDE J. MELLOTT April 14, 1959.

Donald P. Gority

Mr. Gority, 67, of 511 2nd St. died at 6:35 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, 1982, in Altoona VA Medical Center, after an extended illness.
Mr. Gority had been a driver for Yellow Cab.
He was born Feb. 11, 1914, in Altoona, the son of James A. and Daisy L. (Holbert) Gority, and April 14, 1959, Ebendburg, married Gertrude J. Mellott.
Surviving are his wife and eight children: Donald Lee, stationed with the Army in Germany; Robert D., at home; Stanley in Virginia, and Donald L. Richard, Martha, Dessie and Barbara.
Also surviving are six brothers and sisters: Mrs. Kay Fry and Mrs. Virginia Novesell of Altoona, Mrs. Martha Landis of Hollidaysburg, Mrs. Betty Stillings of Fowler, Ohio, Francis of Harrison, Ga., and James of Youngstown, Ohio.
Mr. Gority attended the Berean Baptist Church. He was an Army Veteran.
Interment was made today in Bellwood.

James A. Gority Jr.

Former Altoonan
James A. Gority Jr., 75, of Namaste Alzheimer Center, Colorado Springs, Colo., since Aug. 3, formerly of Altoona and Youngstown, Ohio, died at 1 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 1992, at the center.
Mr. Gority retired as a foreman of the hydraulic department of Comercial Intertech, Youngstown, in 1980, after 26 years' service.
He ws born Sept. 8, 1917, in Altoona, the son of James and Daisy (Hulbert) Gority. He married Isabel Costlow on Aug. 23, 1941, in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife, a son, Ron of Colorado Springs; and two granddaughters.
Also surviving are four sisters: Betty Stillings of Fowler, Ohio, Virginia Novosel and Kay Fry of Altoona and Martha Landis of Hollidaysburg.
Mr. Gority was a member of the Hubbard Church of the Nazarene, Youngstown.
He was also a member of the Youngstown Chapter of the Western Reserve Barbershoppers Chorus.
Mr. Gority was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant in the 10th Armored Division in Europe. He received the European Theater Service Medal, the Bonze Star and the Purple Heart medal.

Gority-A private burial service for James A. Gority Jr., formerly of Altoona, was held Thursday, Now. 4, at Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs, by the Rev. Ross Price of Trinity Church of the Nazarene. Memorial contributions may be made to the James A. Gority Memorial Fund in care of The Penrose-St. Francis Foundation, P.O. Box 7021, Colorado Springs, Colo. 80933. Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Mary Gority and two granddaughters: Colleen and Lisa of Colorado Springs.

John M. Gority

Mr. Gority, 66, of 209 E. Grant Ave., died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 1991, at Mercy Hospital, following a brief inllness.
Mr. Gority retired as a carpenter instructor from Alttona Area Vo-Tech School in 1984, after 19 years' service and was previously a self-employed general contractor.
He was the son of Thomas E. and Nellie G. (Galbraith) Gority, and April 1, 1945, in Altoona, married A. June Wood.
Surviving are his wife, four children: Ronald J. of Buckeystown, Md.; Debra Gority-Pierce of Indian Rocks Beach Fla.; Rebecca J. Fluke of Williamsburg, Todd T. of Greenwood and seven grandchildren.
Also surviving are four sisters: Geraldine V. Hollen of Altoona, Susan L. Irwin of Silver Spring, Md.; Charlotte L. Miles of New Port Pitchey, Fla., and Joan M. Grissinger of St. Petersburg Fla.
Mr. Gority was a 50-year member of the Second Avenue United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher and member of the church choir and Ray Dunn Bible Class.
He also served as Sunday school superintendent and served on the board of trustees.
Mr. Gority was Navy veteran of World War II and a Purple Heart recipient.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Daniel R. Myers Funeral Home.

GORITY - Services for John M. Gority of 209 E. Grant Ave. will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Daniel R. Myers Funeral Home, by the Rev. Douglas M. Compton. Interment at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral Home.
