-----
Don Fransico Bouligny and a group of Malaguenos, as they were called, after
arriving in New Orleans, set sail in Mid January 1779 for this area. They
first settled the Charenton area and called it Nueva Iberia. Sometime in
April the settlement was flooded, they picked up and moved to higher
grounds on the Bayou Teche, about 26 miles. This is where the Spanish
Settlement (by so-called Malaguenos) named New Iberia was established.

By 1792, a general census of the area was taken and Miguel was not in it.
Apparently he had died. Marie, his wife was 53, the children: Joseph 27,
Juan 15, Antonio 13, and Marie Bernardo 8.

Joseph márried Julie Gosseran

Today, the Romero's are one of the largest Spanish families in the area.
The area of "Coteau" in Iberia Parish, next to Youngsville, was the main
settlement of the Romero families.
