1. Jacob & David Toliver were brothers. Her first child was born in Virginia. She left Virginia shortly after the death of her father and moved to Lawrence, Co., Indiana. (Notes M. M. Elliott, IS-80) (She must have married David first in 1821, and later married Jacob, as John mentions Jacob in his will as his son-in-law.)

31. DAVID IRA5 ISOM (JOHN4, JOHN JR.3, JOHN2, GIDEON1 ISON, SIR) was born January 25, 1806 in Independence, Grayson Co., Virginia, and died April 27, 1890 in Independence, Grayson Co., Virginia. He married SARAH CHOATE 1823 in North Carolina/ Virginia. She was born November 12, 1805 in Ashe Co., North Carolina, and died July 22, 1882 in Grayson Co., Virginia.

Notes for DAVID IRA ISOM:
1. David has a large plantation of 4,500 acres and a large number of slaves. He gave each of his children, when grown, 160 acres and some slaves. (Family History of Sewell Thomas Isom, by Glenn F. Isom, 1 Jan 1971, IS-8) David's plantation consisted of 2500 or 3000 acres near the New River within 3 miles of the North Carolina border. (Description of the plantation) (Biography of the Isom Family by Thomas Crocket Isom, 1935, IS-7.)
3. David was declared insane in 1859, son Ira, then son Richard, and son-in-law Lorenzo Dow Hale appointed guardians of David's Estate. By 1866 he had regained his sanity and resumed handling his own affairs. (Notes M. M. Elliott, IS-80; Asset Inventory of David Isom, Will Book 3, 1849-1864, IS-52)
4. The family was buried in the Family Cemetery on David's Plantation. Years later the headstones were moved to the side of the road and the Cemetery was returned to farming. The stones were eventually moved to a corner of the Pleasant Grove Cemetery and remain there today.
5. All of Davids brothers & sisters eventually moved to Lawrence Co., Indiana. (The Heritage of Ashe Co., NC, Vol. I, 1984, by Ralph Baldwin.)
6. The Grayson Co., database lists Spencer & Susannah as parents of David. (Family Group Record #815)


Notes for SARAH CHOATE:
1. Sarah was thought to be French or Indian, as she had black hair and dark eyes. (Simpson & Billingsley, Martin & Edwards, by Mary Ruth Jackson, p. 189)

2. Sarah married David Isom. (Footprints on the Sands of Time, by Dr. A.B. Cox)

3. Sarah was buried in the Isom Cemetery on the Plantation, later the tombstones were moved to the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Slides #2575.
