Ever wonder if your ancestors registered to vote. THEY DID. HAVE YOU??? This is a list from 1867 of registered voters including our ancestors Elisha Barnes Sr., Elisha Barnes Jr. and William Higgs. Whats interesting, is that I am able to figure out that our relatives was brought to Texas around 1847. On another link, I will show Isaac Cary. His information is even more interesting. Some information that is on the document that is not shown is that Elisha Barnes Sr. was from North Carolina, Elisha Barnes Jr. was born in Alabama and William Higgs was from the Choctaw Nation. Also, while William was in Texas for 20 years (1847), he was only in Red River County for 10 years. Stay tuned. I'm searching for more of his information.

  • Isaac Cary and Benjamin Robinett register to Vote (250 KB)
Our ancestors registered to vote. While they were only able to make an x next to their name, they did register to vote. According to these records, both men stated that they had been in Texas for 20 years. If 20 years is correct, then that would have made Isaac somewhere between the age of 10 and 20 when he arrived in Texas as a slave. Benjamin, I not sure at this moment, but he says that he birthplace was Missouri, while Isaac's was Virginia.
