About Our Family Research

I have done resarch on my grandfather and grandmother on my mothers side. My grandmother was an orphan at Normandy Catholic orphanage in Des Moines Iowa. When she was emancupated she went to live with her father Nathaniel Anderson and step mother Pearl Evelyn Fenders Anderson. I traced my Grandmothers Ancestors to Samuel Anderson who was born in 1825. This was her great grandfather. Samuel's wife, Emaline Anderson was born in 1820. Both born in Tennesee. His son Albert Anderson married a Frances Watkins who was a cherokee Indian born in Tennessee. We were not sure how much cherokee. On my Grandfathers side, I traced it back to his grandfather Richard H. Carter born in 1848 in Georgia, Atlanta area. Richard H. Carter's son married Suzana Ross born in Georgia. We are told from great ants and uncles that Susana Ross is a full blood cherokee Indian born in Georgia also. Richard and Suzana had Cora Carter my grandfathers mother. Cora Carter sister is Hattie Carter who is the grandmother of Lena Horne. I also believe and yet to prove that Richard H. Ross is somehow a decentant of Chief John Ross or his brothers. My family always believed that the Carters are also related to President Jimmy Carter. On both sideds of my Grandmother, their skin was fair and I believe that those living in the south passed for white. Some passed for white because they were treated better. They could own land and move about without incident. I've always believed that Jimmy Carter has black blood in him. He is still passing for white. Cora Carter married Charlie Jones.
