Our Branch of the Challoner Family comes from Rotherhithe, Southwark, London (England)area. The Name originates from the city of Chalons-en-Champagne in France. In the early middle ages Chalons was famous for the quilts or 'chalouns' which were made there. The 'Chalouniers' were the merchants who sold these quilts The Challoner name can be found spelled in many variations for example: Challoner, Chaloner, Challener, Chalener, Chalenor, Chalender, Chalon and many more. *Please note that for privacy reasons I have not listed any names or details of any Living Persons on this webpage. His Wife was Jane Jones.They were married: 28 Nov.1825 at Saint Dunstan, Stepney, London, England.They had a son Richard Challoner, born 1827 in Rotherhithe (Died 1886).Richard (1827) married Elizabeth Hepworth in 1851 and they had 12 children, here are the details of their children( marked on here with~)and their families as far as we know them.

Louisa~ Challoner born 19 Dec.1856 in Rotherhithe, she married William Clarke in 1876. Walter~ Challoner,born: 15 Nov. 1859 in Rotherhithe,He became a Mariner and died at sea in 1891. Ada Mary Anne~ Challoner 18 Nov.1862 in Rotherhithe, she died a spinster in 1925
Edwin~ Challoner born Dec.1865 in Rotherhithe He became a Stockbroker (He died in 1908) He married Hylda Elizabeth Jackson. They had 5 Children: Hylda D. born: 1890 Edwin Cyril born: 1893 He died fighting in WW1in 1916 Olive M. born: 1893 Douglas G born: 1894 Norah K born: 1900/1899
George~ Challoner born 1867 in Rotherhithe. He became a Brewery Manager. He married Ethel Draper/or Hyde in in 1913.

Frederick William~ Challoner Born Dec.1860 in Rotherhithe, he married Minnie Jane Knight. They had 3 Sons:
George Frederick born in 1896, (who started our Canadian Branch)
Charles Stuart born: March 1898, married Constance Kathleen Amor, they had a son Ian George born 1932/died 1946. Charles Stuart died in 1976, his wife Constance died in 2001
Robert Albert born: June 1900, he married Rosina Pierranccini and they had son Robert. After Minnie died in 1906 Frederick William~ got married in 1906 to Ethel Louise Collins ( she died in 1912), they had a son Edward Vivian Challoner born in 1908. Frederick William~ died in 1946. George Frederick Challoner came to Canada in 1913. He died in 1976 in Winnipeg MB, Canada. He came with his cousin Edwin Cyril Challoner to work on Uncle Arnie's ranch, which is to have been near Indian Head Sask. He married Gertrude Alice Tilley, 1922 in Minnedosa MB, Canada. She died November 1952 in Winnipeg MB, Canada. They had 2 children: Frederick George and Constance, info on their familes is available to relatives only, on request. Also information on George's second marriage and the child they had is only available to family.
