Nelle left Herman Cole while pregnant with his daughter. She took his new car her daughter, and her unborn daughter, Ruth and went to Nevada. When their daughter was born she gave her the last name of COLES instead of COLE because she liked it better. This was told to Ruth Coles at the age of 41 when she was able to meet her father for the first time.
