Notes for Henry S. Rust:
Henry S. Rust enlisted in the Union Army on 5/12/64. He mustered into "H" Company Ohio 145th Infantry. He was mustered out on 8/24/64 at Camp Chase Ohio. This was composed of the 21st battalion, Ohio National Guard, from Delaware County, and the 13th battalion, from Erie County. It was immediately ordered to Washington D.C. and was assigned to the southern defenses of Washington on Arlington Heights. The service of the regiment consisted primarily of garrison and fatigue duty. On August 20, the time of the enlistment having expired, they were moved by the Baltimore & Ohio railroad to Baltimore and then to Camp Chase where on August 24 they were mustered out, having served 100 days.

ONE HUNDRED and FORTY-FIFTH INFANTRY
(One Hundred Days)
One Hundred and Forty-fifth Infantry. - Col., Henry C.
Ashwill; Lieut.-Col., Lloyd A. Lyman; Maj., Henry C. Olds.
This regiment was organized at Camp Chase, May 12, 1864, to
serve for 100 days. It was composed of the 21st battalion,
Ohio National Guard, from Delaware county, and the 13th battal-
ion, from Erie county. It was immediately ordered to Washing-
ton, D. C., and on its arrival was assigned to Gen. Augur as
garrison for Forts Whipple, Woodbury, Tillinghast and Albany,
comprising the southern defenses of Washington on Arlington
heights. The service of the regiment consisted principally of
garrison and fatigue duty. On Aug. 20, the time of its enlist-
ment having expired, it was moved by the Baltimore & Ohio rail-
road to Baltimore and thence by the Northern Central, Pennsyl-
vania Central, etc., to Camp Chase, where on Aug. 24 it was
mustered out.

Henry is listed in 1875 Evarts Historical Atlas of Delaware County as a township trustee.

He was a devoted Christian and one of the driving forces in building Peachblow Church and the surrounding community. (Peachblow Church Records)

Sept. 25, 1887, Estate record, those named were Selah (Sealy) Manter, John Conklin, and Elmore Durfey were appraisers of his estate valued at $1100. Daniel Andrus was the administrator of the estate, Charles DeWitt, Justice of the Peace,and Rufus Carpenter the Probate Judge. Signed by heirs; C. Rust, Ellen Rust, Lemuel Rust, Fannie Rust, J. E. Hoffhines, Eliza Hoffhines. (DCGS Probate record #4184).
                       
Delaware Journal, 9/26/1887........."Esq. H.S. Rust died last Sabbath evening about 6 P.M. of Typhoid Fever. Funeral services at the U.B. Church of Peachblow, Tuesday at 11 A.M. and his remains placed in the vault at Cheshire. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn their loss; he was a good citizen, well respected by all."                                                                  The area where Piatt Road and County Rd. 10 (Old State) intersect was known as Rust's Corners in the early part of the 19th century, and is noted as such on maps of that time. The Rust and Janes families, coming to the area from New York, owned most property in that immediate area extending to Alum Creek. The area remained much the same as it was then, until the third quarter of the twentieth century when Alum Creek Dam was constructed to supply water to Columbus & Franklin County. Today it is the site of many upscale homes, being part of the Lewis Center area, now a suburb of Columbus. On the property along Alum Creek (Now Alum Creek Dam Recreation Area) is a large marina and boat dock.

Notes for Lucy Ann Rose:

Lucy was a member of Peachblow United Brethren Church since it's organization. She is buried in the church cemetery. In addition to her four children, she had another two who died as infants. One is probably buried in the Peachblow Cemetery. The other died earlier than the building of the church an is in Cheshire Cemetery. In the 1900 census, she is living in the home of Jack Perfect.

Delaware Gazette 7/24/1906....." Mrs. Mary Rose from Galena, and her daughter, Mrs. Miles from Lancaster were visiting Mrs. Lucy Rust on last Tuesday, who was lying in a critical condition, with no hopes of recovery."                                                                              Delaware Gazette 7/30/1906......" Mrs. Lucy Rust died at her home south of Peachblow last Thursday after a brief illness. The deceased was 75 year of age, and is survived by four children. Mrs. Rust was well known in Delaware, Mrs. Ed Rugg of North Union Street is a niece. The funeral services were held from the residence Saturday. Interment taking place at the Peachblow cemetery."      

Delaware Gazette, September 7, 1906............" Lucy Rose was born in Galena, Ohio October 26, 1831. Died July 26, 1906, aged 75 yr 9 mo. She united in marriage to Henry Rust on July 29, 1851. To this union were born six children. Charles, Lemuel, Mrs. Eliza Hoffhines, Mrs. Fannie Perfect and two who died in infancy. Her husband preceded her to the beyond 19 yr. ago. She was a member of the United Brethren Church at Peachblow since its organization. The funeral was held at the Peachblow church, interment followed in the church cemetery."

  Notes for Lemuel J. Rust:
Lemuel was in the home of Jack W. Perfect in thr 1910 census.
                 
He was declared insane by Dr. Silas W. Fowler and was first sent to the Ohio State Hospital ( then known as the Central Asylum for the Insane) at the age of 33. He returned there several more times before his death. He was listed in the 1900 census as an inmate in the Columbus State Hospital. A lunacy affidavit DCHS/DCGS (Probate Records #8303) dated October 6, 1916 and signed by E.T. Humes, Probate Judge was the second attack that sent him to the hospital where he died in 1930.     
                                                      Delaware Gazette......."Lemuel Rust died Saturday evening in Columbus, following several years of illness.........Funeral services were held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Perfect, on the State Road Monday at 2 o'clock, with Rev. J.C. Riggs officiating. The hymns "Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus" and I know in Whom I have Believed" were read by Rev. Riggs. Pallbearers were Oren Janes, Willard Jaynes, Clyde Todd, Charlie Hults, Frank Kiser, and J.H. Rae. Burial was made in Cheshire Cemetery.

Hoffhines, from Pickaway County, brought his wife up to her mothers, Mrs. Rust, on last Saturday to rest up and regain her health. She has been in poor health all winter."

Circleville Herald, October 27, 1932.............."Mrs. Eliza Jane Hoffhines, aged 70, widely known Ashville woman and wife of Joseph Hoffhines, died at her home at 6 a.m. Thursday of complications. She had been ill nearly five months. Mrs. Hoffhines was a native of Berlin Twp., Delaware County, being born March 12,1862 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rust. Besides the husband, a daughter, Mrs. Raymond Weiser of Toledo and a sister, Mrs. Fannie Perfect of near Delaware, survive. Funeral arrangements, in charge of E.F. Schlegel, have not been completed."

Circleville Herald, October 28, 1932.........."Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the home for Mrs. Eliza Hoffhines, of Ashville, who died early Thursday of complications after a five month illness. Rev. W. Newton Mantle of the First Methodist Church of Ashville, will officiate. Interment in Cheshire Cemetery, Delaware County."

By 1880, his brother Augustus is listed in the census as head of household, father John, mother Jane, brother Nelson and his wife Dora (both school teachers) and Joseph in the household living in Berkshire Twp.

At the time of their son Dana's death in 1895, they are back in Pickaway County (Harrison Twp.) where they remained.
As of the 1900 census, married 18 years, three children....one living. Joseph a carpenter, they were living on Main Street in Ashville, Ohio.                  1910- 1930 Census.....same location, rent on their home in 1930 was $15. Joseph, a salesman in the hardware store.
