      9. Phebe Janes, born 03 Oct 1794 in Pittsfield, Berkshire Massachusetts22; died 20 Jun 1875 in Berlin Twp., Delaware County , Ohio22. She was the daughter of 18. John Janes and 19. Hannah Rockwell.

"Record of the RUST FAMILY", embracing descendants of Henry Rust, who came from England, settled in Hingham, Mass., 1634-5. By Albert D. Rust. Waco, Texas: 1891. 8 vo, 528 pages, illustrated. page 199 mentions Lemuel's wives. Page 306 gives the birth date of Aurelia. It aslo says there was a second child by Permelia. It then mentions Henry S., the son of Lemuel and Phebe.

Subjects: Janes family., Janes, William, 1610?-1690., Janes, Edmund Storer, Bp., 1807-1876. page 292 gives the same information regarding the marriages and birth dates if Aurelia and Henry.

Lemuel married Phebe in 1824. His first wife Permelia Janes was Phebe's sister. Permelia died on December 5, 1823 at the age of 27. She is buried in the Blockhouse Cemetery in Berlin township, Delaware County Ohio. Aurelia was born in New York. Henry S. Rust's mother was Phebe.

REAL ESTATE RECORDS

Although there is no record of Lemuel owning land there is a real estate transaction that mentions him living on a parcel in Berlin Township. September 24, 1824, John Janes sold ,for $409.82, to Hiram Nettleton, 95 1/2 acres part of lot No. 4 in sec. 4, twp. 4, range 18. describes the land as "buts on the north on Lemuel S. Rust". (Delaware County Deed Book Vol. 110, page 300-01)

Delaware County Deed Book Vol. 67, pages 409-410, January 15, 1856....A.A. Janes sold 10 acres to Phebe Rust for the sum of $30. The southwest part of lot 2, section four, twp. four , range 18.

December 20, 1841....... The Janes, Rust family leased a parcel of land to School District Number 4, Berlin township for the sum of ten dollars "to have and to hold during the term of time that it shall be occupied as a school house". The parcel was part of lot two in Range eighteen, township four, section four. The document is signed by Harry Janes, Elizabeth A. Janes, Allured A. Janes, Caroline Janes, Alfred Thompson, Maria Thompson, Phoebe Rust, Horace Janes, Minerva Janes, Hiram Nettleton, and Aurelia Rust. Witnessed by John Valentine and Thomas L. Hoadly.

1870 census.......Visit # 210 Berkshire, Delaware, Ohio... Elizabeth 74 is living with her son Eldridge back in Berkshire Twp.

November 14, 1850..........His will names Nathan Dustin executor of his will, and it is witnessed by John Klapp & John Janes. (Delaware County Probate Records # 1377 DCHS/DCGS) Included with this record are statements from Henry Rust & J.R. Klapp verifying validity of the will and the handwriting & signatures of John Janes and John Klapp on the document. Henry Rust calls John Janes his grandfather in this document.
The will names Lucy and Adeline as his unmarried daughters living at home, as well as Roxy Eldridge and Jane Janes.

Delaware Gazette, July 19,1877..........."Another pioneer gone. Horace Janes died at his residence in Berlin Township on Saturday, July 14, 1877. His funeral was largely attended on Sunday. Mr. Janes was born at Grand Isle (Lake Champlain) and immigrated with his father John Janes Sr., and settled in Berlin Township, where he resided since 1817. He was the last surviving member of his father's family, all of whom settled in Ohio. Members of the family were distinguished in the early history of the state. John Janes Jr. was a pioneer of Methodism in the state."

Berlin. Peachblow. Died on Saturday January 19th, Father Kellar, at the advanced age of 88 yr 9mo 9da. The funeral was held at the U.B. Church on Monday conducted by Rev. Biddle, after which the remains were placed in the vault at Cheshire. He leaves four children.
