Columbus Dispatch, Saturday, March 17, 2001........"Leona M. Searles, age 86, of Delaware died Wednesday evening March 14, 2001 at Wintersong Village, Delaware following an extended illness. She was born on May 26, 1914 in Columbus to the late Clovis and Lucinda Hutchinson Houston. Leona moved to Delaware in 1989 from the Northside of Columbus. She had worked for J.I. Case, Highlights for Children, and Capitol Sales as an office worker and in the inventory control depts., retiring in 1982. She and her family had also owned and operated the Sunbury Grill in the late 1940's. Member of Zion United Church of Christ.
Survived by her two daughters, Shirley A. (Paul) Holt of Delaware, Janet L. Gallogly of Delaware; four granddaughters, Terry L. (John) Reeves, Fonda Phelps, Brenda (Bill) Kuba, Susan (David) DeVault, six great-grandchildren; Sister Mary Champ of Columbus. Preceded in death by 1st husband, Harold J. Nichols in 1959, whom she married Nov. 12, 1930, 2nd husband Arlo Searles in 1977, whom she married Feb. 4, 1972, son-in-law Gordon Gallogly in 1996 and a sister, Dorothy Greff. Friends may call Sunday 2-5 p.m. at Devore-Snyder Funeral Home, Delaware where services will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m., Interment will follow in Otterbein Cemetery, Westerville.

Sunbury News......" Bernard J. Searles, 85, Village of Westerville Retirement Center, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999 at the center. A retired farmer and livestock inspector, he was a 50 year member of Condit Presbyterian Church and served as an elder and trustee. He was a 60 year member and past master of Sparrow Lodge No. 400, a 50 year member of Columbia Chapter No. 33 Order of the Eastern Star, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, and Aladdin Shrine. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corp. Surviving are his wife, Lola Dell (Jennings) Searles; a daughter and son-in-law, Nan and Keith Wampler, Granville; a brother-in-law and wife, Raymond and Helen Jennings, Gallipolis; a sister-in-law and husband, Mary Elizabeth and Tom Brenner, Sunbury; a grandson; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Arlo; and two sisters, Lillian Carnes and Mildred Satterfield. Funeral Services were held with Rev. Carol Weiss officiating. Burial followed in Trenton Cemetery."

Lola Dell “Lolly” Searles, 85 of Westerville, formerly of Sunbury, died Sunday (April 15, 2001) morning at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.

She was born in Condit, Delaware County, Ohio on October 10, 1915 to the late Dan and Bessie (Farris) Jennings. Also preceded by her Step-mother: Millie (Leach) Jennings who raised her after her mother’s death. Retired High School teacher with the Big Walnut School District, where she taught for 27 years and retired in 1976. She also had taught in Miamisburg High School for 5 years prior. Graduate of Otterbein College. Member of the Condit Presbyterian Church, Friendley Club, Church Women United, Columbia Chapter #33 OES, Search Light Club, Secretary of the Residents Council at Huber Village, Reading Volunteer for Pointview Elementary School. She also tutored many students after her retirement.

She is survived by her Daughter and Son-in-law: Nan and Keith Wampler; Grandson: Jay Wampler all of Granville. Brother: Dr. Ray (Helen) Jennings of Gallipolis; Sister: Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Brenner of Sunbury.

Preceded in death by her Husband: Bernard J. Searles on December 30, 1999.

Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury and one hour prior to the 3 p.m. service Wednesday at the Condit Presbyterian Church, 15102 Hartford Road, Sunbury with the Rev. Carol Weiss officiating. Interment will follow in the Trenton Cemetery.
